So I played Diablo 2 (only past normal) when it was released in 2000 and never really touched it again. Recently I got the expansion and played an assassin to a level 25 and I want to start another necromancer in hopes of playing past Hell. I've been reading posts on guides for necros and I made a build of something that I think sounds fun to play, but is it a good build?

20 Skeleton Mastery
20 Raise Skeleton
20 Revive
20 Poison Nova? or Bone Spear?
20 Bone Spirit

I figure I can put the rest of my points into a curse or something.

Attribute points will mainly be spent in vitality and dexterity.

One more thing. I like the thought of only using bone spells and curses, are there any effective builds along the lines of using bone walls, spears, prisons, armor, teeth... you get the idea. Sorry for all the questions.

Any and all constructive criticism is appreciated.

Ok, note that you plan on putting points into Dex and Vital, correct? Ok, so you're running w/o energy. Now, if you have sojs and CTA, then ignore this, but if not, you're going to burn through your energy pretty quickly, even with insight. 20 revives (assuming it hits at least 30 with gear) is very costly to maintain, especially if you're going to be spamming bone attacks at the same time. If you don't plan on spamming bone attacks, there's no point in using them anyway, right?

As for Poison Nova, it's more effective with the Syn energy. Bone Spirit isn't a synergy so if you go Nova, dont max BS =).

A Hybrid you can try to pull off is:
20 Mastery
20 Skeletal Warriors
20 Bone Prison
1 Point Bone Armor
1 Point Clay
1 Point Golem Mastery
1 Point Summon Resist
1 Point Amp (Optional if you find an offhand)
1 Point into: Teeth, Bone Spear, AND Bone spirit
Dump rest into Bone Wall.

Overall Outcome:
Skelly Meat Shield - You'll have good tankers for you.
Bone Prison Wall - A nice way to keep range attackers from hitting allies.
Decent Armor - With points in Bone Prison and Wall, you'll be able to take considerable damage.
Decent BS - Since your Bone Prison and Walls, Teeth and Spear all increase BS damage, all you'll need is a lot of +skill gear to make this 1 point go a long way.

I feel this build is more mana-acceptable and gives you the freedom of both worlds that you wanted. Others can correct me of course. CE is also another option, but then you might as well make a fishymancer, not a hybrid.

Welcome Newcomer to The Darkness. Grab a brew (http://www.lgl.bayern.de/de/left/fachinformationen/lebensmittel/warencodes/_images/bier.jpg) and feel free to raise some corpses.

As Shrouds said, don't try to make a jack-of-all-trades. Focus. Choose between a pure Skelliemancer, a Skelly/Poison hybrid or a Skelly/Bone hybrid. Then read the appropriate guide and do a search. The build you describe can still beat Hell, but only because of the Skellies.

1 Mages
1 Clay Golem
1 Golem Mastery
1 Amp Dmg
