Noob Question about Dream runeword

I am new to this forum, but not real new to D2. I was wondering if someone could answer this little question?

I want to build a paladin that uses a Dream helm and Dream shield to make lvl 30 Holy Shock. Will points going into the synergy of Lightning Resist add damage to the Dream's Holy Shock aura?

no...skills that you are granted from items do not gain +skills bonuses or synergy bonus.

IIRC, if an item says "level XX skill when equipped" you will not get any bonuses from +skills, because the item restricts that skill to "xx" level.

but if the item says "+1 to Skill" (for example, Enigma grants +1 to Teleport) then you would gain +skills. So a paladin with an Enigma who also had a total of +10 to all skills would have a level 11 Teleport.....but like i said, IIRC....

Stompa, you must have misunderstood the question.

If you have an item that grants you a runeword like holy shock, points into resist lightning (the synergy) will add to the damage made by the active holy shock auras.

However, you can not raise the level of the active aura in any way. Synergies is the only way to help.

Lorven's response raises another question. With a Dream helm and a Dream shield, will I really get lvl 30 holy shock, or will I instead get a 15 lvl holy shock with a redundant item?

I read a strat that uses Dream helm and Dream shield with a sorc for a lvl 30 holy shock. That is what got me to thinking about this.
