is there a maximum # of auras you can have on at 1 time? for instance i was wanting to equip my might merc with bramble armor(thorns) and pride polearm(concentration)and equip myself with beast(fanatacism). is this doable?

IIRC you can have up to 7 auras on a character, like this:
Prayer merc (1), equipped with pride (1), Bramble (1), and a Dream (1)
Player with Lastwish (1), Dragon (1), and a Phoenix (1)
Total: 7 auras.
Too bad there is no other aura-giving helms but dream, that would make it 8.
As for multiple auras, they will work.

I'll throw another question in this thread...
Will two Holy Fire auras, one from Dragon and one from Hand of Justice stack? I am pretty sure they add different levels of Holy Fire.

First, let's look at the runewords that grant auras:
Dream - Holy Shock
Dragon - Holy Fire
Doom - Holy Freeze
Infinity - Conviction
Pride - Concentration
Hand of Justice - Holy Fire
Phoenix - Might
Bramble - Thorns
Faith - Fanaticism
Inisight - Meditation
Beast - Fanaticism
All told, 9 auras are available from runewords. Now for the question of which characters can stack auras most effectively. Barbarians can dual-wield, opening up certain possibilities. Paladins can offer an aura of their own, further increasing the potential number. Necromancers can craft Iron Golems out of items, giving them an extra aura in addition to the Iron Golem's throns aura (which is around them only); alternatively a Fire Golem gives a low-level Holy Fire. Let's take a look:
Act 2 merc (Defiance) with Infinity (Conviction), Dream (Holy Shock), and Dragon (Holy Fire)
Iron Golem (Thorns) made from a Pride Polearm (Concentration)
Necromancer wielding Beast (Fanaticism), Phoenix (Might), and Bramble (Thorns for everybody!)
That makes for 8 auras. You could get almost the same with a Paladin:
Act 2 merc (Defiance) with Infinity (Conviction), Dream (Holy Shock), and Dragon (Holy Fire)
Paladin (Fanaticism) wielding Doom (Holy Freeze), Phoenix (Might), and Bramble (Thorns)
8 auras again. Now for the Barbarian:
Act 2 merc (Defiance) with Infinity (Conviction), Dream (Holy Shock), and Dragon (Holy Fire)
Barb wielding Doom (Holy Freeze), Phoenix (Might), and Bramble (Thorns)
7 auras only. If you want to stack'em deep, go for a Necro or Pally.

Your forgeting metal grid gives iorn golam charges to anyone so that could be an extra say pride aura. Unfortunatly the goalm disapears at the end of the game so it would be a real wast but still if your just going for the absoulte max.
I thought the Iron Golem is auto-cast when you join a new game, if you leave a game with it alive.

Mine does

It does.
Or else I would have to waste many, many Ethereal Fury Thunder Mauls.
