Hi,

I used to play a lvl 80ish SCNL sorc with half-good gear, occy+skullers+visercustant and the rest was kinda bad stuff, anyways she was pure blizzard and had 75% block but -30-40 on most resists.
Anyways going down to mephisto I often tried to find games with many players to get better loot, anyways she died like at least every 10:th run.

If this had been HC, even after careful lvling she would die! if not the 10:th run, then the 30:th run...

how do you solve the problem? get so much loot that you can just build another?
do all those countless mf runs with friends so they can loot?

Sometime you got to get to tele just into a pack of fanaticism/conviction enemies, and then you are probably dead, depending on the amount of FCR/FHR

Play 1/2 player games.

BO yourself on 2nd computer.

Get more resists.

Tele to the edges of durance with high fcr%.

half-good gear, occy+skullers+visercustant
There's your problem... your gear starts off bad and gets progressively worse for an HC meph runner =)

Wiz > occy any day
Viper > skullders any day
Rhyme/Whistan's/Upped Mosers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any day

On HC mf is the last priority. A poor mfer might even end up mfing with 0%, and if you can hit 100% without giving up much you should just stick there. The rich folk will run around with 500%+ still sometimes, though I never push for much past 200% regardless of what I've got as diminishing returns make it seem not worth it.

okay I got it, but just for the record I used viper for tele:ing, and then changed into ire+alibaba+ist:ed shield when doing meph with moat-trick... would that work in HC too? to change gear?

If you can get bo you will have no worries runnig Meph in HC.

Weapon switch is fine, just don't do it before he's almost dead.
Switching armour on the other hand... longer (swapping armour adds more time than just pressing W) runs with more MF aren't necessarily better than shorter runs with less MF in terms of items per hour. However longer runs with more MF tend to be more dangerous. This is not good.

I have the same opinion of the moat trick... I'd rather just have a character that can tank meph without any risk and 0% mf than run meph with 200% mf and have to use the moat trick... landing on top of him and casting is just sooooooo much faster and is generally safer so far as I'm concerned as there's less other monsters to possibly annoy you.

yes it would, but in HC you want to be extra careful.gull+rhyme on switch is all I used. dual spirit+34% viper+stringofaers+ Shako +soj+fcr/resist ring, +skills amulet, resist+mf boots, resist+mf gloves. With this I had ~200% mf that is enough, really. Max resists, all extra life you can get. I had um in viper and shako, lots of extra life charms.

I'm right there with mouse on this. I build my sorcs on the following priorities: survivability>killing speed>mf

As far as surviving the trip down to meph, you have to have enough FCR, along with block and resists, but too often I see people who forget about FHR. if you have 0 FHR then its too easy to get stun locked if you accidentally tele into a pack...regardless of your fcr.

Wizzy/Viper/Whitstan
Alibab/Rhyme switch
63FCR minimum
some FHR

Pole Merc.....type is different for some, I went Def. Get you one of those poles wiht slow on it.

I always moated him with new sorcs until I felt good with her full setup.

My inventory had a ton of charms for life and man and some MF.

200MF is all you need to have good success, even 150 is fine......whatever you can have and have max rez and life...etc

Start off in NM unless you already have all the gear as NM Meph and Ball can drop all you need to do Hell ANdy/Meph/Pindle. Andy is a good run in hell, I got a ton of Shakos from that *****!

well i play on sc, have as much mf as possible (538, not fully loaded with charms tough, and dont have any problems with mef. I do have reasonably expensive gear( isted occy, tal arm+amu etc) And i have 0 problems with him, and i do it quite recklesly. The reason im not dying lies with my merc i think. I have a defiance merc, has 15k def with eth glads, and he can tank meffie, while i blizz his ***. The key to survival lies with a good merc IMO.

gl with it !

it seems any of you with HC sorcs with elite gear havent died in a meph run? Or have you died sometimes and how?
Kinda impressive I think not dying from mephisto runs if you do a bunch.
My highest HC char went lvl 49 thats why im asking, and that was lvl 49 as a fishymancer with 75% block, good resists in nm...

With full rejuvs in your belt you should never die to Meph. If you dont have decent block, FCR and FHR you can die on the way there but you should never die to Meph. I always use and Holy Freeze merc with and Insight wep to freeze monsters and keep the mana up.

When i still played the game i did like 300.000 mephruns. A wiz and some crap gear was all i ever needed. Never worried about a merc either, with or without merc, didnt make a difference to me. Just tele into his feet and static him, than a couple steps away from him and FO him. Check drop, rince repeat.

I've had exactly one meph death (two if you count a 1.09 baba trying to do it at ~40 now that I think back I guess)... it was a rather poorly geared sasa, but that still would've been fine. What wasn't fine was fatal exception error leaving my poorly equipped sasa in the game for who knows how long while meph beat on her without me being able to do anything.

i havent had a meff death in v1.10 onwards; i try to be extra careful about meff because i know it can be terribly difficult.

i've had a few reasonable builds:

(1) orber is far and away the best build you can have for a pure meffer. easy on both your gear and your merks, you can teleport better than all other sork types.
(2) i used blizz for most of season 2, but i did start off with a nec so this one doesnt really count. i had riches before i built the sork~
(3) light is the one i used to season 3. excluding the griff's that my sin found before she died, the sork pretty much had all "nm meff" gear. she was pretty bad at actually killing meff, but she was more versatile than cold sorks.

gearwise, i always stuck with these two options:

(1) wiz+magefist+shaftstop+mosers gets you past the 63 fcr bp while still having decent block and pdr. the setup also gives you close to max resists.

(2) wiz+viper+magefist+fcr ring+mosers gets you to the next tele bp, but you lose quite a bit of pdr when teleing. this usually isnt a big deal, until you get hit by fana dolls or urdars~
