Hi all,

Been lurking for a little while and this looks like a cozy little spot, think I will stay a while. :prop:

Anyhoo, I seem to be the king of reroll lately and Necro is my class of choice. I keep going back and forth because whenever I see a build that I think I like, I get part way throgh it and wonder if I wouldnt like something different. Now the highest I have gotten any Necro is about 30, so I realize I should be considered a noob on all acounts. That being said I am pretty sure I am going to go with one of the variants of Summoner but I noticed that most builds l have at least one point in Clay golem. So far my experience with Mr. Clay has been decent early on, but as I get further into the game he becomes more and more useless. I realize its good for the "slow down" effect but some of the later bosses usually one or two hit him, until I finally just give up and stop using it altogether.

So my question is, is it worth it to put just one point in CG and GM if you never intend to raise it beyond that? Or would it be considered a total waste?

I have a level 92 pure bonemancer. The only 2 points not in bone synergies are the 1 in clay golem and 1 in golem mastery. Those 2 points are probably more valuable than the last 20 i have put into bone synergies.

The clay golem in hell has huge life (of course +skill gear helps). He is a re-castable tank that i can dump anywhere i want. Monsters generally hate golems and seem to swarm to the golem more so than to me. In areas with Iron maiden, he survives where a merc cant. On Nihlathak runs he always gets the snakes attention leaving me safe to kill them and nihlathak. Golem never kills anything so i dont have to worry about the CE from Nihlathak (since the natures peace i wear does NOT cover minion kills)

Clay golem is by far the best tank in the whole game -- he also does the least damage, but that is actually a good thing!

The slow effect he has is awesome if you are a skellymancer -- slowing enemies attack so that the skellies have a chance against tougher enemies.

Dont be fooled by damage stats that you see, thinking fire or iron golem will be a good killer -- they are actually weaker in life than the clay golem.

Clay is also very resummonable. You can use it like a decoy. For example, pop one at the middle of a knight pack and watch them kill the golem. While they are doing that (and wasting their curses on the golem), I nova them and they die. You can't do that with iron golem, and fire golem unless you have a lot of mana.

Also, another reason to put 1 point in CG and GM is because you need summon resist, which affects your skeles as well.

Very interesting, thanks for the information guys. I had no idea that your minions get more health in Nightmare/Hell.

I will have to rethink those extra two points...

...ok I am done thinking about it. Gumby can stay.

yah...i felt the same way as you did when i first read the guide years ago...iwas like "1pt? who are you guys kidding?!?"

but really...that 1pt clay and 1 pt gmastery is very worth it....and he is a great tank..can't kill muhc but hes just a tool for the nec =P

well the 1 pt miracle with golemn (actually 3 pt miracle including GM and Summon resist) will only work if u have a lot of + to skills gear. So if ur only level 30 u probably wont be able to use much of the gear that is required for ur golemn to be godly...

Still, even if it dies in 2 hits, there is no problem since you can always resummon it. I always drop at least 1 point into some form of summonable tanks, if the character has one. At the very least, it helps to distract enemies when you need your body back.
