View Full Version : Why doesn't anyone use Azurewrath for PvM?

Hey all. THis is a dumb question, I know, but I can't seem to find a thread already existing for this. I've got a 1-pt smiter currently running a Grief PB with Exile vortex but I happened across a Azurewrath PB yesterday during a trade game and by the looks of it, it'd be great for baaling or general PvM if not for UT...

Thanks in advance for any and all intelligence.

What do you look for in a weapon for smiting uber tristram, or zealing uber tristram. Let's list them, and not in a way to sound apathetic, but here goes. :P
-Speed
-Res
-Crushing blow
-High damage

Now. Azurewrath has only one of these, so it isn't suitable for either. Maybe if you ber it, it'd be an okay smite weapon. :S

Res? If you mean Resistances I do not see hosts of weapons with elemental resists, excluding bk maybe or some other...I'd say that Lightsabre lite
absorb can be handy too.
I think ITD can be good for minions, because if you have itd you hit them easily and thus you are likely to trigger lifetap more quickly, and that leads me to add ctc life tap on striking.
Although both itd and ctc life tap are not essential in weapon, they can help.

From my personal experience though, I'd say that if a pally can stack cb on gore + guill's, the weapon slot is kinda flexible, depending on other gear.
I am currently using Heavens Light and it is not bad, before I used a Crescent Moon pb, I tried a Grief Zerker too. Well...UT experience does not change dramatically.

*Grief is best for smite purposes. Might be UT fastest killer imo.
*Pally elite scepters, they have cb, and that is good, because you can free your helm slot to get something else, or stack cb like mad (15+35+33). Good if Grief is out of budget or whatever. They have +skills, and that can't really hurt can it ? :)
*Elite Unique pb: I'd pick ls over azure for the sorb, but I'd say that both are fairly viable. Pbs are fast, that meaning you can get decent smite/zeal speed even w/o fana. Magic and cold damage on azure make it good for ghosts spawned by Baal.
*insert more or less expensive rw here: lw pb, ebotdz, edeathz etc... lots of choices. I began UT running with a 'Strength' (Amn Tir) phase blade...

The base dmg on Azure is too pathetic to be very good for general PvM in anything but solo games.

Well. Silence for example, if you're using let's say a phoenix shield you need to get your res from somewhere. :P

i've found azurewrath to be good for 2 things!

1. physical immunes - the bonus magic/cold damage is enough to where i can just zeal with it and kill phys immunes at a decent speed.

2. getting my body if i die while doing uber trist. yes i know if i die i'll have multiple corpses with items which is bad, and messes up picking up my corpse, but the knockback from sanctuary aura makes getting my body much easier, then after i get it i can usually cast holy shield real quick and usually have no problem killing without my grief PB.

Azurewrath is only good for PI's like stated. So anything else goes to grief.

You can make a really neat 'pindle camper' by combining Principle, Azurewrath, Holyfreeze, Zeal and Holybolt synergies.

True, although Silence is currently overlooked. Its damage is generally too low...I wonder how I could forget that .09 goodie :wink3:

I've got an Azurewrath and I use it a lot for phys immunes, when running the Tower and cleaning up Uber Trist. It's great for that, but I'd much rather have a Grief (and I do) for fighting.

In my experience Azurewrath is the best choice of weapons against gloams. Also like stated earlier at kills PI's without any curses at decent speed.

I have used Azurewrath on a frost zealot and found it worked very well, the low weapon damage wasn't so important as the holyfreeze + synergys are the main source of damage and socketed with a shael gave 50% ias, this makes it easy to hit the 72%ias needed for 4fpa zeal.

I think azurewrath is the best shock zealer weapon as well. It's cold/magic damage is good for light immunes of course and its low base damage is not a concern here since element zealers barely get any ED.

Hi, i have to give my penny's worth.... I love azure and until I can afford Grief it will be my faithfull friend, I followed the one point smiter build credit to Kingdryland, I use zeal/fanat for getting to bosses and smite on bosses(after I got scammed trying to trade for a torch I decided i would have to solo UT) my gear is:
Guill face um'ed
duress AP
string of ears
Raven/natures peace
Hoz (163%)
Draculs
Gores
I have an ama torch (now)for res
a few 5allres 5 fhr sc
rest is crap really
And of course AZURE

But i have been amazed by this build, its the only chara i have made (and i have made a lot) that I feel happy going anywhere in the game I key run, solo ubers with Azure its a great weapon the sanctary aura is awesome keeps annoying monsters at bay I think it is so underestimated, its quick, the magic and cold damage means that i have no trouble with any immunities, M screen shows i do zeal dam around 2-3k, experienced zealers may laugh at this with their 10k zeal but in pvm it does the job.
Azure is cheap try one if you cant afford the top end runewords, O.K. I will demote it when I get Grief but for now i think it rocks, none of the other weaps i have tried help so much.I could go on , as I am well known for being a bore my pennies finished for now.
Go on try it
P.S. this is my first post pls dont kick my botty too much as this is only my opinion

The physical damage on Azurewrath is a bit too low for the mainstream PvM builds (Fanatic Zealot) out there. Even Razor's Edge outdoes it damage wise.

But it nets you back 1k + cold and magic damage + the loving sanctuary will ignore all resistances and immunities from undead thus allowing you to leech much more effectively from them. In baal games where wisps are around, sanctuary will stun them making them easy meat.

It's a nice stick for elemental zealots too. Just a shame about the level requirements for PvM.

Agreed. The only sad about azure is that crazy lvl 85 requirement. Other than that,it is not brutal, there are much better weapons out there, but still,it is extremely fast and no monster in the game is totally immune to what azure can dish out.
