new blizz sorc = no survivability

I made a blizz sorc and shes lvl 80, i can solo meph in hell fine but when i go do cows or something its just insane... i get 1-2 shot by cows. i am aiming for max block, i have about 150 base in dex and 200dex with items, block is at 48% If i want to get to 75% thats a lot of wasted points into dex... Currently im using a monarc spirit.

also how can i get more defence, i use shimmer armor but i want a lesser chance of mobs hitting me

You dont want max block with a spirit. The block thingy is just too low. You sacrifice some damage and fcr if you use another shield. Whitstans guard or sigon shield has lots of block, or a sanctuary tower shield.
The thing with a sorc is that you really dont want to be hit. So the times they do throw a swing at you, you block it. Or tank it without block. So dont worry about def that much. Just try to let your merc tank or just tele alot.

blizz sorc can have really great survivability if you are willing to sacrafice damage.

I was once obsessed with getting max possible survivability, i was able to get 1.1k HP (No BO), max block, 45% damage reduction (shako + stormshield) 95 fire 90 cold 95 lightning 90 poison resist, and some absorb lightning too. I ended up dying in chaos sanctuary when i was typing to someoen and getting beat on (kept hitting full rejuv button but it doesnt do anything if you are typing to someone =( )

I agree. Since you already have tons of points in dex anyway, you might as well just use the SS for survivability (DR, block). If you want to use the Spirit, you might as well just remake the character for all the points invested in dex.

I'd rather use the SS though. Max block and DR saved my Sorcs way more than a Vit build did when I Tele through the Durance or do Baal runs (I used to play HC). More skills doesn't make up for dying, and the FCR can be made up for by other ways; I've never had to use the FCR from Spirit to reach a breakpoint.

Having said that, it's useful to keep Spirit on switch with CTA for BO, since you already have the 156 Str needed for SS.

if u want max block, go ss. if going for mana / skills and no block, take spirit. thats why theres a ability called teleport out there. sorcs are fragile when in combat unless u have the right gear for a melee type.
my bliz sorc has no problem in hell unless met by cold immune. she has ~105 fcr

What others have said, but you should also work on your own skills keeping your sorc out of harm's way.

110 fcr is all a sorc needs to survive. Max block etc. is just there for helping out when you make a mistake - no blizz sorc relies on block to tank, it's just icing on the cake.

I've always favoured pure vita builds. But unless you want to remake, switching to ss is definitely the way to go... actually for a pvm blizz sorc you might be better off with a sanctuary.
