View Full Version : How about Crafted castershields?
I thought about this recently, and i need some opinions.
So, for instance we could have an Es sorc with about ~80 strength.
We could get an ideal shield for her. Such as:
80 str req (if -20 req)
70% block (if 30-30)
120 mana (if 2sox , perf mana + dual sur'd)
17 fhr
%increase mana
2 sox (as already mentioned)
Life..?
Luna (Elite version of smallshield, which has a strength requirement of 100/ block of 40% on sorc)
Recipe: eth + p amethyst + magical luna + a jewel.
recipe stats: +10-20 mana %mana increase / 5-10% block ratio
Possible stats: 30-20 (Fasterblock/blockchance) / 2 Sockets / 17 fhr / resist
life / -Requirements
If someone got lucky with rolling one, it just might be one of the best Castblockshields ever to be seen. someone agree?
The sockets offer a huge variation. You might socket it with 2 surs for 100 more mana, or 2* facets for 10% more dmg / 10% -res, or Eld's for even more block (if the roll isnt perfect), or jewels with stats, or what ever you desire.
They just might be insane, agree?

It'll never have +2 skills, 55%FHR, 35%FCR...
Plus, does an ES Sorc really benefit from all that blocking?

I have thought about crafted Lunas before, and they certainly have potential.
If you play untwinked (meaning: you probably donīt have a Whitstanīs Guard) and are after high blocking, crafting a Luna even for a fighter character could be a good idea. In the early game, crafted Hitpower Gothic Shields can get more blocking than a Tower Shield with +20% block.
But using two Sur runes for mana (shakes head). Thatīs just...insane! Those are unbelievably rare. In several years of playing, I have never seen a rune higher than Gul...

If you want to have a sorc with max blocking, you will need an insane amount of dex with Spirit. Better use a Stormshield in that case. Even then you need something between 150 and 200 dex for 75% blocking at L90 (just a rough estimation, correct me if I'm wrong). If you want blocking, it means you expect to get hit a lot, so the DR will help a lot as well. You will need 70 more str than for a Luna, i.e. 70 less vit which is 140 less life, but DR compensates that with ease. Options for socketing: Hel or -req/something jewel, PDiamond or Um, Eld, Shael, Ber etc.

Energy Shield sorcies ESPECIALLY need blocking. Open Wounds and Poison would otherwise tear them apart in seconds.
krischan: something like thiat. IIRC my sorc in Ladder2 needed ~215 dex at lvl91.

You're so right. tho spirit is a must if you use 200 fcr (as my nones sorc does)
For the surs: In europe they are not considered as "high" runes, more like semihigh, being roughly about 75% the worth of the highrunes, which are Jah Ber Ohm, zod isnt so popular.
Indeed they are rare, but they'd be the ideal for a ES sorc.
Ofc "untwinked" could use dual Elds for blocking (assuming you have a 2 socket spawn)
As in for DR: Energy shield is calculated before anything else, so the dr would have an effect on a bare 5% of the damage (assuming you have 95% es)
and 70 more energy means a nice manaboost, with Battle orders / dual sojs / other %managear) and you can get 80 str (assuming a -20req spawn) almost with base strength (assuming you have "twinked gear" such as anni/torch 20 stats, Crafted sorc amu +fcr +mana + STR (10-2x) which already gives you over 70 strength (assuming amu has 20+) But adding a little strength doesnt hurt, since 1 energy doesnt mean that much, and can rather easily be covered by a right choice of gear, which doesnt have to have +20x str.
If you aldeady have the str, why not use Gerke's Sanctuary? Loads of DR and MDR and very nice blocking. Socket with whatever.
