On my way to maxing Vigor and Holy Shield (Taking turns each level boosting them)
1 in pre-reqs

I'm using Wizspike for the resists and FCR
A Magic Shield with +2 Pally Skills/25-40% resists ( need a good exile or HoZ lol but Who doesnt?)
Gore Riders
Laying on of Hands
Guardian Angel
+3 Combat Skills Ammy
T-Gods Belt (light res +max and absorb)
Dwarf Star
Ravenfrost
Shako (but I have a Guillarme's for smite runs)


My hammer does around 5.5k (with conc. - very low I know, but im far from optimal equipment)
My smite does in the 300-400 range with Conc.

I get most of my damage from LoH (350% damage vs Demons, 95% of everything is a demon)

I have 105 Str base
Enough Dex for Max Block with HS
Rest Vit

Around 1600 hps
400 mana
my def is in the 4000-6500 range depending on aura
Resists - Fire is around 85/Cold-45ish/Light - 50s or 60s/Poison like 40 (with wizspike


Im thinking of Upping my Gores for more def and possibly me GA, too (I have a +20 str ring and Tgods gives me +20 str, so Im good for equipping upped items)

I use hammer for general killing, switch to Smite for singles/bosses/when I just cant seem to land hammers on that one annoying monster.



Improvements?

Is hammersmite a viable build? My end-game goal is to do Ubers with him, hammer for minions, smite for the ubers themselves.

I'm not exactly rich, but I have a small and growing nest egg. What equipment should I aim for?

I need a Nigma, HoZ, Anni, Torch, and some Combat charms, but those wont come till I get in the 90s and can really hold my own anywhere in Hell.

Just a few suggestions. As your smite damage is pretty low, your damage done to Ubers, even with LoH, will be almost insignificant. I suggest switching LoH with Dracul's for the chance of life tap, which will keep you alive. Crushing blow is what does the most damage to the Ubers.

You are going to need a lot more resistances to counter Mephisto's conviction aura. Um your helm, armor, and shield and load up with some resistance charms.

You may also want to switch your weapon when doing the Ubers. A Silence phase blade is very fast, and also provides 75 resist all. Use this calculator to check your smite speed: http://diablo2.ingame.de/tips/calcs/weaponspeed.php?lang=english.

Yeah, I was pondering the ponderable of using Draculs for Ubers, but I wont need it for much anything else. I havnt even begun to equip myself for ubers yet, Im still rather poor, though with Gores+Guillarmes, I have 50% CB :) But I wont be using Wizspike in Tristram, dont you worry!


Also, maxed Hammer/BA/Conc, raising Vigor and HS.. I really really doubt I'll ever get to level 99, so my skill points are more valuable than if I were gonna hit that mark.

So should I boost HS more than Vigor from now on, as it raises my smite damage?

You'll want to max HS then vigor, hammer damage +6k is irrelevant really in pvm. Your smite is doing nothing, nothing at all. So either get a better hs, a better shield, or a grief. 400 damage is bad for late normal/early nm, much less hell.

mainly just focus on keeping your resists up, getting more smite damage and getting more CB. A lot more CB. a "Black" runeword flail (40% CB i believe and 15% IAS) is a cheap option that may help with that aspect. In terms of resists, if you could possibly get your hands on a COH, a UM'ed HOZ, and a whole bunch of resist charms, you would do much better.
