View Full Version : Crossing Over to the Dark Side
Well after much deliberation and wrestling with my willpower I have decided that I can no longer avoid the temptation of the hunt. I think it was barry's pking library and the angelic ammy i found last night that did it.
So here goes my first attempt at pking. My idea is basically to steal Barry's build for the 1 handed level 12 charger.
Clegs sword w/max jool
3soc helm and 3 or 4 soc arm w/ maxes
vidalias boots
deaths sash
4 soc ed/ar paly shield w maxes
however I'm out to the woods on the gloves. any ideas?

My first instinct would be clegs gloves. I mean if you didn't get the 1 Hit ko, then your target would be slowed by 25% for you, and since you are using the sword anyway you will get 2.5 AR/Character level bonus. So less missing too.
Of course... I've never pressed the hostile button in my career, so I'm not speaking from experience.

If you're making a Charger, Bloodfists are the gloves for you. With IAS, +40 life and FHR they cant be beat. You might consider going higher than lvl 12 for your character. If you want to use four socket armor, Gothic Plate requires 70 str. which might be a challenge for lvl 12. The alternative is either 3 socket Breast Plate or 3 socket Light Armor. Cleg's sword requires 55 str. which may also be a challenge for lvl 12. Vidala's boots are lvl 14 req., so lvl 14-16 may be better. You also can start using +10 life SCs at lvl 14. At lvl 12 you are stuck with +15 life LCs.
While I like Cleg's sword for a Zealot, I'm not a huge fan of using it for a Charger. Most likely you will only get one shot at at hitting and if you count on the DS for the kill, it won't always be there. If you really want to deliver the "money shot" get a 6 socket ethereal pike or maul and load it with 20% ED/Max jewels. You can pick up plain 20% ed jewels fairly cheap.
I will also include a word of warning. Don't forget that there are PKKs out there too. :azn:

Thanks for the heads up terry, although I was counting on the PKKs. The second char I'm thinking about is a jabberzon to rip apart the type of charger I'm going to make. probably going to start out with a pker with just shopped stuff since I'm most likely not going to last all that long. but we shall see. Good idea about the pike though, will have to look into that.

For pking, you get a max dmg bonus with set sword and glove combo.
For dueling, I say bloodfist.
Once you start going over lvl 12, the build starts to get expensive although lasts much longer - CowKing's boots at lvl 13, life sc's at lvl 14.
For lvl 12, think about a Hel rune in the sword, and a 3 socket light plate as terrymanning suggested. Hsaru's boots or Gorefoot.

Do a max jewel in the sword too and just get your STR up to the 55 needed.
Your are trying to "save" yourself around 35 life at the expense of much needed max damage.
Life charms are plentiful at this level, max damage charms really arent an option, so get that damage where you can -- JEWELS
As for the four socket gothic -- if you go this route, then go ethereal to lower the STR req, but it may still be a few points above the 55 needed for Clegs.
Plate is also heavy armor, so you will incur a run/walk penalty.
To hell with clegs gloves -- go with fists -- the FHR can save your *** if you bite off more than you can chew (or encounter a fast zealot), and the life is just gravy. -- Plus you won't be called a cheesewhore if you ever find yourself in a dueling situation.
For pk'ing clegs definately. Even though bloodfists provide life and fhr, the ias wont help and the slow on the set makes more of a use than the added life. Imo. :undecided:
