question about merc's level at hiring

when you go to hire a merc, you see a range of levels to choose from. Is it beneficial to hire a lower leveled merc in lieu of a higher one? Meaning, will a lower merc have better stats than higher merc at same level after a while?

The only thing you really need to remember is that a merc hired on a lower difficulty will have better stats than a merc hired on a higher difficulty. In other words, a rogue hired on normal will have better strength, skills, dex and HP than a rogue hired on Hell.

For Act 2 Mercs on NM, you won't have much of a choice. Apart from that, nothing else matters.

what im really trying to get at is..

i need to hire a might merc and from greiz's menu, he has several might mercs with varying levels. Should i buy the lowest or highest or does it make no difference in the end (so this is within the same difficulty, being that might is only available in nm)?

Hire the highest. If you hire the lowest, and level him to the highest, ALL his stats and aura will be identical to the one who was the highest i.e. there is no difference apart from the merc level on the hire screen.
