I am returning from a 2 year drought from playing diablo 2 and of course my account is gone so I have to start over.

So I am deciding to start off with a MF'ing Sorc to build back up my item inventory.
So anyone that can give me some help with a good MF Build, please by all means lay it down here for me to read...I'll appreciate any help that is given.

I haven't played since the 1.09 patch so I really don't know what builds work anymore.

Include the skills, equipment, and stats please...I NEED THE BEST OF THE BEST

Hit me up...

I would go ahead and make a Blizzard sorc (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=261493).

hmm if you are mfing mephisto and only meph, here's the gear:

- shako(ist runed)
- 35% vipermagi with um rune
- heart of the oak flail runeword
- spirit monarch runeword
- arachnids
- dual 30% nagelrings
- 50% war travs
- 40% chance guards
- maras amulet
- on switch: IstIstIstIstIstIst crystal sword and IstIstIstIst monarch

for your info, in the v1.11 patch, almost everybody uses CTA(Call To Arms) runeword weapon for Battle Command and Battle Order to boost their life and mana. but if you are purely mfing mephisto only, i dont really think u need that; just a act 2 merc to tank for you.

depending on what kinds of gear you can afford, or whether u prefer offensive or having more defense; these are the merc to suit your playing style.

act 2 defiance merc(if you play defensively)
- ethereal cryptic axe Doom runeword or a ethereal The Reaper's Toll
- Fortitude/Stone archon plate runeword or a shaftop with ber rune
- vampire gaze with ber rune

act 2 holy freeze merc(if you play offensively - or want to kill council too)
- ethereal cryptic axe Infinity runeword
- Bramble archon plate runeword
- vampire gaze with ber rune

inventory:
- sorceress hellfire torch
- annihlus small charm
- gheeds large charm
- at least 3 lightning skiller gcs
- all 7 mfscs with or w/o mods.

i prefer this mf sorc to be a lightning sorc, since lightning tends to overkill.

skill point distribution:
- 1 warmth
- 1 cold armour
- 20 charged bolts
- 1 static field
- 1 telekinesis
- 1 teleport
- 20 lightning
- 20 chain lightning
- 20 lightning mastery
- the rest of your points go into nova.

stat point distribution:
- strength: just enough for gear(calculate all the +str from all your items)
- dex: if you are using annihlus and a sorc hellfire torch, u dont really have to put in anything.
- life: every single point.
- mana: just about 40 or 50 points will do(most sorcys do not put a single point in mana, but in this case u are not using CTA so do put some points to mana)

lightning will be your main attack on mephisto after you have given him doses of static fields. moat trick is not neccessary, just let your mercenary tank meph and u will just be standing a safe distance away killing meph. but of course when dealing the final blow, teleport at a distance again from meph, switch to your Isted crystal sword and monarch and give meph a few zaps.

so that around sums it all.. u should be having decently nice mf.

or if u dont wanna mf meph u can always go key hunting.

3 types of keys in v1.11 battle.net realms exists: Key of Terror(found at countess), Key of Hate(found at summoner) and Key of Destruction(found at nihlathak).

a set of these 3 different keys will open up a red portal to fighting one of the uber bosses, which i'm too lazy to elaborate on further lol.. but the bottom line is that a sorceress cannot kill these bosses.

just keep mfing these 3 unique monsters(countess, summoner and nihlathak) for keys and sell them.

but do take note that the amount of MF you have will not affect the chances of these guys dropping a key. so in this case just get the best sorceress build to farm them all.

this is the equipment setup i recommend for a decent key hunter:
- griffons helm
- a 32% FCR or higher Spirit monarch runeword
- arachnids belt
- Heart of the Oak flail runeword
- Chains of Honour dusk shroud runeword
- maras amulet
- SoJ x2
- bloodfists gloves
- sandstorm trek boots
- gear switch: CTA/lidess shield

stat points distribution
- strength: just enough for gear(count up all your +str mods from all your items and add your stat points accordingly)
- dex: dont really need if you have sorceress hellfire torch and annihlus in you inventory.
- life: everything
- mana: the very most, just 40 points will do.

skill points distribution is the same as the MF sorc lightning build.

you will also need a mercenary, especially if you are farming nihlathak for destruction keys.

act 2 holy freeze merc
- ethereal cryptic axe infinity runeword polearm
- Bramble/Fortitude archon plate runeword
- vampire gaze with ber rune

farming countess and summoner is a piece of cake, you just have to get used to the map patterns(w/o using maphack) for black marshes/tower cellars for mfing countess. currently there's no way to tell which direction to teleport to in the arcane sanctuary to find the summoner so it's trial and error.

but farming nihlathak can be a little tricky.. there's a recent thread topic on a guide to farming nihlathak in the sorceress forum...

@sorceress god: Do you seriously think he can afford all that? Enough with the ridiculously expensive gear and start with something cheap.

- lore helm
- any vipermagi (or stealth)
- spirit weapon
- spirit monarch
- random belt
- dual any nagelrings
- random boots
- magefist
- random ammy

Of course, if his "best of the best" means ebaying, there is nothing wrong with your gear selection.

For a long time I was MFing with donated equipment, so a lot of it was garbage. The most important aspect, I'd say, was getting to 105% fast cast for teleporting down to Hell Mephisto quickly. Rare rings with 10% each + Spirit shield + Magefists + Eschuta's (+1 skills are dirt cheap and you use it for the FCR anyways) let me wear a 4-ptopaz armor and 3-ptopaz helm until I found enough to trade for better equipment.

The advantage of running Meph is that you can use the moat trick to swap every bit of your gear out for MF stuff and not worry about dying. Go for a Blizzard sorc if that's what you'll be doing, Lightning sorcs are better for most other areas but don't have the luxury of being able to swap their entire setup.

zoltok: i run hell meph with just 63 fcr; of course she also has -70 all res. that extra frame is nice, but not needed.

and i'm guna disagree with sorceress god. isting the shako is 1 mf better than a ptopaz. a ptopaz is 1/160 of an ist. also, a rhyme shield and gull dagger are very nice for wep switch, granted you drop 55 mf, but again its much much cheaper.

my sorc:
ptopaz'ed shako
34 mf ammy
29/28 nagels
ptopazed skullders
gull/rhyme, +2 escuchatas/spirit
goldwrap
38 chancies
eth 40 wartravs (with a good amount of durability left)
(no torch/anni, a few dozen 4-6 mfsc's, decent gheeds)

and the entire "best of the best" is useless for mf. you can spend 160 times the cost to get 1 more mf. but the bottom line on a mf sorc is how much wealth she earns you. if you spent 20 hr getting gear, you have to find 20 hr of stuff before you break even. mine cost in the neighborhood of her shako, so pul. i was in profit from the first decent dropped item.

there is something to be said about killing and teleporting speed, but with the way blizzard has gimped fast game changes, its a non issue now.

about farming keys: keys are hard to trade, the organs they make are much easier. i run them with a friend's pally. i tele there and static, he kills.

Blizz sorc is a safe bet for Meph runs (and Pindle too, if you have a merc). You can have WizSpike and Lidless Wall for fast cast TPing to meph. Get him stuck in the moat, switch to mf shield and weapon, and start spamming away the blizz at a safe distance.

Well, if u just started to play again d2 i uggest this gear:
shako + ptopaz

occu + res *** OR mf ***

War Traveler (40-50mf)

chance guards (30-40mf)

Skullders ire + ptopaz OR vipermagi + ptopaz or um

And belt is a hard question: maybe arachnid = mal OR Verdungos hearty coil for dmg red and vitality.

rings=2x nagels OR raven frost and dwarf star....easy to get

amulet= 3+cold sks

shield = spirit monarch OR for real mf rhyme/splendor rune word

and charms what u need might be cheeds fortune (very easy to get) nad some mf charms and res charms...i had this kind of bliz sorc with this equip...andy dropped 2shakos, bk4 and many occulus...well have fun :)
thats all.

I use tal's full set, spirit monarch, two mf rings, chance guards, and war travellers, and switch into occy/rhyme shield before I finish the kill. With charms I have up to 482mf and keep max resists in hell. :)

I'm still lacking gheeds fortune. What is the easy way to get this thing?

I don't know, but they drop often enough for me. Andy seems to favour it.

so it should be able to turn up in Hell meph runs before too long?

Gheeds isn't a terribly rare drop. I usually get 2-3 of them a week from someone.

go read he's first post.

best of the best gear?? skills, equip and stats??

i don't think he's asking for a poor-man's build. all i'm doing is just giving my opinions on good gears.

Good gear and starting a new account are mutually exclusive.

Just to prove the point of some posters here, I can say from experience that you can run hell meph using lowly gear like Angelic set.
I have done this when I was really down and out and survived in HC doing it.

Just get yourself an all blizz sorc. and run Meph using the moat trick.
If you have the slightest trouble quit out and try again.
Do this just long enough to get some upgradable gear.

Trust me you can do it when desperate. Might have to acquire a little talent for teleing and using moat trick, but easy as pie.
