Anyone else have trouble re-installing game? Heres what I did...

1. installed reg d2 game (classic)
2.went to b-net and patch auto downloaded
3. Next it tells me to put in expansion disc. Whats the deal with that? Now I do have x-pac so I put it in but It wont let me install it.
4. I unistall whole game then re-install "classic"
5. I go to the Blizzard web site and download patch for the site.
6. I get the same deal...insert x-pac disc. but when I do it wont let me install it.

Any suggestions? I tried the ones over at Blizz already. Thanks!

You can create Classic characters with LOD installed. It is no big deal. I'll bet your CD is a patched veersion of the game from after LOD was released. Maybe you should just install LOD and let the game installer have it's way with you. Then just create Classic characters. Theree is a check box for expansion characters in the creation screen.

Ya, I would love to install LOD just for the dif' screen size options for classic. Thing is it wont let me. like I said after installing D2 and patch, it tells me to put x-pac disk in. Thats all right by me, but it wont let me install LOD. No install option comes up, just play...but I can play because its not installed. Can't play D2 becasue when I put in disk it tells me to put in x-pac disc...its a crazy circle...The discs are from a battle chest set that I bought last year. The game was installed and running fine 3 days ago but was unitentially unistalled. Now I got this crazyness when trying to re-install. Well thanks for the response!

Try installing classic then xpac then go to bnet to get patch updates. If you do it in this order should be ok.

Rawly, Thanks for reply. Ya I tried that idea of yours and what happens when I put the LOD disc in, it just says "play" and not install. If I click "play" then it says to insert the LOD disc even thought its alreay in drive. I actually have Two of the LOD disks. Tried both and came up with same deal.

You must still have some old LOD files on your comp. Try uninstalling again. Then delete all files including the folders in c:program files/. Do you know how to get into the registry? If so, delete all keys that refer to Doablo or Blizzard or Battlenet.

First, back up your saved characters if you have any. Then try a clean install.

That's what I was thinking. That you haven't fully un-installed all files first. They're maybe some LOD files still in the registry or somewhere in your computer. Try un-installing everything first, checking registry, and programs to make sure nothing with diablo is left. Then try to re-install.

And don't forget to copy your char savegames and screenshots from your Diablo 2 dir.
