View Full Version : ORB/Firewall
just a quick question, has anyone tried ORB/Firewall Sorceress for Hell CS
or would ORB/TS be better, as firewall seems to do so much more damage.
Thanks
Too much fire res on monsters in CS, also its a pain to target, and mix of two timered spells doesnt help.
Good for popping off storm casters, but then when you've got orb its a null point.

De Seis and Infector sometimes spawn dual immune ( cold + fire ) so Orb/Firewall is not the best for CS. If it has to be a sorc Orb/TS, Orb/Nova or Orb/Lightning will work better. Nevertheless Hammerdins are still the No 1 CSer.
OK Guys thanks for the input

"Mr. Seis, could you please stand still while I cast this firewall under you ?"
I have posed the above question to Mr. Seis many times and he blatantly refuses to comply with my wishes.
This illustrates the downside of firewall(and meteor). Monsters would need to remain stationary for this to work. Or, they would need to be slowed. This combi was originally used a lot to MF in LoD I think, cause you can get rentals(hirelings) which last, which provided a distraction for the monsters to stand still.
In CS, the only problem you really face are the Oblivion Knights who do actually stand still quite a lot of the time.
The easiest monster to kill with firewall would be the mana draining Storm Casters (not cold immune, not even cold resist, so your orb will already obliterate them), which will stand still at any time they see you so they can cast their mana drain spell. Unfortunately, they will also flee when their life is low.
Thunder Storm will allways hit, but it won't hit where and who you want. So just decimate the others and the ones that need a good lightning shower will get it.
I have a level 80 MF Orb/Firewall MF sorc (1.09 so no synergies on the orb) which I use in normal and nm. Sometimes, if I am very, very carefull I can use her in Hell, but definately not in CS.

What do you think about nova

Nova can be used to finish Cold immunes in Hell CS instead os TS. It's just that it will cost you a truckload of mana more. One way or another, you'll have to use Static to speed up the process...

Just pop up beside seis and static him, then use lighting(or somethingelse to finish the job)

Mr. Seis tells me you are a meany ! :)
That is a good way to do that, unfortunately, not allways effective for me, since you first have to take out his anger management talk-group he allways brings with him and then you have to manouvre him towards a corner rather then to a fresh pack of nasties to which he can bring his warm smile and radient fanaticism. For the low levels of Telekinesis I have, it hits only 1 out of 3 times, pushing him back only 1 out of 3 times, I have no idea if this improves with level or if you mebbe need AR for that.
I think I would use static and then something to finish him. Whatever I have avail and does at least a little bit(1-300+) of damage. So Thorsa's Nova suggestion would prolly work even though Nova wasn't synergized and thus left behind the rest of the skills damagewise.
Lightning is not really a bad tree to have in CS, most of the time, the only thing lightning immune are the storm casters and they love the cold, having no cold resist at all. Unlike Venom Lords which have 50% cold res in Hell and Oblivion Knights, which have 180% cold resist in Hell(these are both LoD values copied from Arreat Summit, but I wager they apply to classic aswell, even though that 180 seems a bit steep)
So Fred's Frozen Orb/Thunder Storm build is looking quite polished and shiny to me. Note that I may be biassed because I already intended to build one of those. (also note there is no dash or space between the 'i' and the 'a', so this is not a reference to my preference or anatomy)

I expect Dacar to take care of this segment of the post, as it is obvious trolling and flamebait.

Thank you for pointing that out, I allways appreciate constructive critisism.
I have ajusted my post accordingly. Once again, thank you, I would have looked awfully silly if I had left that there.

I see nothing wrong with it. Maybe i need to be more sensitive or something

Have you ever heard of a fireball sorc wearing the angelics combo so she can kill? How about a blizz sorc pumping dex so she can hit meph?
The entire notion of needing attack rating to use telekinesis is so absurd that I don't see how anyone could mention it unless their sole intention was to get others to flame him for saying it, i.e. flamebait.
And warlock, I suggest that you get on your sorc and select your skill as telekinesis. Do you notice an attack rating?
And on the extremely small chance that you wonder why you don't cause a knockback everytime, I suggest that check out the strategy compendium, specifically the part on knockback.

I smell a flame war and/or bans from both sides :P
Fred
Before either side deems it a good idea to flame one another I suggest both ask themselves what reason they even come to these forums. Certainly not to be ridiculed simply because they are naive to every aspect of the game.
Remember the sole purpose of this site...

First off, I assure you that I am not taking any of this seriously, let alone personal or anything like that.
But really, he asked if a sorc spell needed attack rating to be effective. Who asks that? lol. But anyway. . . .
warlock, congrats, I guess you succeeded in your flamebaiting.
