(vs charge palladin)
As there is like 0 good europe NL LLD games, I make a thread here
Which character would win
a level 24 smiter or a level 24 zealot?
the equip would be mostly the same
swordback
tandoliga (gnasher for smiter?)
goblins
3pruby mask?
etlich amu
100ar rings with life (never found one, but well you get the idea)
cleglaws gloves? or full death's set
twitch-armor (or something different for smiter, with high def)

Most of the LLD zealers ive seen use Clegs Sword, Gloves, and shield., Angelice amulet and rings..
But I would think the smiter would win.
Smiter
3PRuby Death Mask
Angelics Combo (2xRings & Ammy)
Sback
Gtoes
Deaths Sash (to freeze is to die)
Deaths Gloves/Bfist
Twitch/Blink Bats
Clegs Sword/Gnasher/Diggler/+1pala 40%IAS Cutlass (if you want speed nothin beats a cutlass)
Zealots are identical save the shield, you can kill faster with full clegs rather than an sback.
If your really concidering one of these builds you might think about doing so at a lower level. at lvl 24 you can have a +1 knout that does 100max.

I think that Zealots can put Holy Freeze on and nulify Smite. Well Smiters can do the same but the aura won't add to damage.
i have a suspicion that the zealot would win. Im not sure in any way, but at lvl 24 zealots can already pull off some serious damage with a clegs sword, while smiters are stuck with the low-damage non exceptional shields and lvl 1 holy shield, which really hurts their damage. Smiters do hit every time though but i still lean towards the zealot.

Cutlass level req is 25, I wouldn't recommend building a level 24 char based on it. :)
40ias on a weapon will put it at level req 38 afaik.
With a cutlass you need 54ias to reach 8fpa.
So, as Fred already calced in another thread, 30ias from the death combo, 20 from twitch and you'll need only 4 more, so 10ias on a cutlas is enough.
And on higher level chars, which have Fana-Inside (tm), you only need 3ias with level 20 fana on.(so then you can wear just about anything, no need for the gloves or armor to have ias, if you have 10 on your cutlass, bless Radykal for gibbin meh that +2 pala 10ias cutlass, lvl 58 req :) )
Supposing you wear the blink, a 30ias cutlass is enough, but that would put it on a higher then 25 level req if I remember correctly.
the more important reason why getting lvl 25 is good for a smiter is the fact that you can start using barbed shields, which boost your base smite damage from 5-9 to 18-35. And because of that its a good idea to switch to using blood crescent as your weapon to still have open wounds.

Then one might aswell go for full clegs with a boneflesh. Gobs optional, but advised. Although there is also something to be said for having some frw to be able to stick to your target.
But I do believe the original question was about level 24 smiter vs a level 24 zealer. We could theorise what would be best for level 90 chars, but that would not answer the question. :)

Full clegs is the best pvm smite setup, but im not so sure id use it for lld/pvp. Best lvl 25 smiter gear IMO 2 pdiamond barbed shield + blood cresent + bfist/deaths combo

On my lvl 51 pvp zealot, i duel many smiters in nm duel games. The way i c it, smiters usually win when the zealer is wearing a shield, but shift zealing with a nice ranged/high dmg 2h weapon is the way to get them.
Of course, 99% of the smiters i come across get pwned by my zealer (best pvp zealer east ladder (for melee duels) Mainly cuz im pretty much one of the only good ones, and the others go for low dmg and resists ><)

smite requires angelics? why? what is this world coming to...

The best level 25 smiter shield is a priest's barbed shield of deflection 2os. Socketed with 2x elds so you can put little to no stats into dexterity and still maintain max block.
True, Doug. The fact that smite hits every time slipped my mind. The better choice ofcourse would be min dmg rings. DOH!
And @ KaythonXE: Yes, your right. that would be a very nice setup. And if you can get some elds over to USeast Classic please PM me as I'd be very interested in some other items that Expansion has aswell!

On my smiter I wear eeehm, manald(for the mana regenerate and life regen, not for the mleech since I don't hit with my weapon) and a SoJ(need mana, some people are good at chucking potions even though I don't), but offcourse one could choose to wear something with life(angelics has life) or something with dtm (angelics has dtm, 20 of it even)
But better would offcourse be something rezzy for when you face a elementalist.
You need the AR on the angelics for when you throw down your shield in anger, to make sure you don't hit your foot/feet*. Cause it would be a shame to ruin a perfectly good pair of gobs.
Things which 'do not transfer onto'/'do not work with'/'are not needed for' smite : mleech, lleech,ar,min damage, max damage, adds l/f/c/p damage, and then some.
*cross out what is left of your char after losing a duel.

Don't forget Cleglaw's Gloves for Knockback :-p

Would that be for the Smiter, Zealer, or both?

Noting the :-p after his sentance, I would think he mainly means the smiter and more precisely, the list of things which get transferred to smite.
Well, that almost killed his joke, so I'm not going to explain further, for that would dissintegrate the joke.

Clegaws gloves suck on a zealer/smiter for pvp, knockback is bad, especially on a range 1 weapon (in pvm it doesnt really matter and can help) On a charger they are 1337 :)
Fred
are you sure min dmg has no effect on smite dmg? coulda swore it did.

I'll check it again on my old smiter.
---===---
Oki, verified. It has no effect what-so-ever.
It was a ring with +3 to min damage, some AR, some res and some light radius.
(no str, cause str does affect smite damage)
Bummer! Guess best bet for smiter then is +str/dex/life/mana/res rings... and skills ammy. Thats too bad. Thanks for double checkin!
---
Hmm, was just thinkin. how bad would sojs be? For any level melee smiter. Me thinks they might even be better than str/lifers.

Well, yes, I would use SoJ's depending on what I am attacking.
For pvm you would need to get your res from somewhere else if you use SoJs.
if you are facing (pvp) casters, you just need lots of res against their element(s) and the extra damage would not be as important as res I think.
In general I think I would also use SoJ's though, even for CS.
cause you get
+holy shield == more damage, longer duration, more defence
+smite == more damage
+fana == more damage (mebbe a further breakpoint if you happen to be close to a breakpoint)
I don't quite know why you would want dex on your smiter's ring other then to be able to use a flail/knout or other weapon which requires it.
Handy mods would be, imho : str, c,f,l,p res, mana, life (not leech)
well, ive always looked at smiters as PvP chars, and melee pvp at that. so res really isnt that huge of a deal. unless you have a sneaky conc barb that whips out a 6 sock peme exec and you die in milliseconds... ;)

Just gear them up with melee pvp gear, then when needed switch to a few heavy resist items
My pvp zealer has -20 res all, and he survives fine most of the time in nm duels. Vs a competent elemental based attacker, switch to 3 ptopaz/pruby/psaph shield, 1xx ar res rings, and a 20 pris 5x cr lr ammy ftw! :)
Fred
my thoughts exactly. reses are only needed, well, when they're needed.
