View Full Version : The Skull Trick

So please, do tell what is the trick to the skulls... Perfect skulls and clvl 90+

There is some trick because a member of [dye] trades me good items like Heavenly Garb, Twitchthroe, Shard etc for my perfect skulls en masse.

He is a level 91 paladin so there must be something he is after with the skulls perhaps aside from the 6 skull / rare item re-roll stats cube recipe?

So really please do tell what is this "secret"? I know someone out there knows :wink3:

It must be a tight lipped "l33t-clanar" secret?

No pskull secret, just rerolls. Uniques like those are generally not worth much of anything anyway.

Either that or he has a butt load of SoJ"s and is rerolling using the P.Skulls and the SoJ's

Rare Item + 6 PSkulls = Low Level Rare Item

"int(.4 * clvl) + int(.4 * ilvl)"

That means the items he keeps rerolling will end at an item level = 80% of his char level. Since the most valuable items are rare items with sick mods, both of you are getting a profit out of this. You get good unique stuff and he keeps rerolling his rares to finally get that shield or mage plate that earns him one or more SoJs.

What is rerolling?

Putting an rare item with 6 PSkulls in the cube and pressing "Transmute" is rerolling in this case. It will give you different mods on your rare item.

How do you figure out the ilvl of a item ?
And when you reroll it could just as easy come out with mods like 2%ed, 5fres, 5 cres.
In which case the ilvl wouldn't be that high anymore, and the rerolls couldn't possably be any good, right ?

The ilvl of an item is determined by the monster/area that drops it. Every monster and area in the game has a level, and when an item drops, it receieves that level as it's ilvl. An item's ilvl determines what mods are available on an item - for example, the +1 light radius is an ilvl 1 mod, I believe. Any ring that drops with an ilvl of 1 or higher, can get it. Which is why you can find these very early - but you also find them much later in the game, when monsters have higher levels. It's still available, and if a level 80 monster drops a ring, it's still got the chance of being a +1 light radius ring, but it's ilvl would be 80.

High level players gamble +2 amulets, and the weak ones are rerolled. Also decent rerolls from +2 Paladin shields and 30+life helms. +2pal weapons such as martels/execs could also be rerolled, along with 30+life rings, but players mainly reroll +2 amulets.

that might all be possible - but the _main_ use of skulls is to convert them to lod and reroll baal charms.

but then that would be the main use of skulls for lod. This is classic

skulls are of more use in LOD?
why?

are they better than other gems apart from the 3classic recipes and the fact that they leech?

I also think that violet (most useless in classic?) gems are the most popular(?) in LOD - why?

with convert i mean mule it to a level 1 classic char and convert that char to lod - give the skulls there to a highlevel char (or at least to a char with the horadrim cube and high ilvl charms - don't know if for charms you have to cube with a high lvl char).

As far as rerolling charms in LOD, all pgems are the same, AFAIK. Some types of gems are used in crafting. I'm sure that 2 minutes of looking would give you which ones can be used for what.

Skulls are better in classic because you can reroll rares and socket rares with them.

So skulls would be of more use in classic, since the LOD formula for rerolling charms can use any pgem but the formula for rerolling rares (which I would assume is never used in LOD since uniques/runewords are the only things people wear) requires skulls.

Wait... when did lod come into the picture?

Post 10 in this thread. Or never. You choose.

rerolling is much like gambling, i on the other hand prefer just buying stuff :azn:

Seeing as Deathcrush mentioned he was trading to a member of dyE-, a 91 paladin (sano[dye], dyE-Hammerfall most likely), he would be rerolling amulets.

Although some players bring gems to xpac, you could just find them on xpac. Certain gems are worth more due to crafting there, but pskulls really aren't favored.

Ametheists aren't the most useless in classic.
Think about a +30str helm at level 18, good for leveling when you can't wear your final items yet.
Or how about 10 str in armors, handy for casters and base str chars.
Mebbe 30 extra def in a 100ed grim shield is favored by some, though I dunno if they would be willing to spend a SoJ on that. :)
Let's not forget it's uses in a melee weapon, more ar=more hits.
I admit, on a weapon I prefer a PS, but if I where to socket a weapon purely for pvp, I would pick anything but PS and most likely I would use a PA.

I would....for a BvB, that is.
