Help Cant Lvl Merc!!

I am lvl 84 and doing pit runs, my merc is lvl 81 and I am letting him do all the killing but he is getting NO exp. Not a single point.

I've tried to kill things in each differant difficulty of hell mode to see what was up, and no matter where I go he won't get any exp! I've tried hell chaos and baal runs, he won't get exp!

I've tried a few of the later acts in Nightmare, he won't get exp!

Can anyone please tell me why I can't get him to lvl up. He is 3 levels lower than me and there should be no reason for this.

If you play 1.11, you can try to hire a new merc, they can be hired at high levels now even in lower difficulties.

have you tried cows yet? those seem to give the best xp for mercs
just make a private game...because if another person kills them, ur merc wont get any (even if partied)

act3 flayer jungle in hell is excellent if you can kill fast.

With my poisonmancer I rushed my merc all the way up to lvl90 there in 8 player baalruns.

ur merc will get some exp from your kills too , so if u kill fast he will lvl faster

Sometimes a merc doesn't level up, even though he has enough XP. My guess is that he already got enough XP to close up on your character, so he stopped getting them, but he suffers from the mentioned bug. Leaving and re-entering a game should fix that.
