Runes

I am doing countess runs for runes but most of the time she only drops really crappy runes.
Is there any other boss or a different way to do runs to get runes in the game?
And what would be a good thing to do in the game to get higher runes?
And one last question. Is the countess more likely to drop higher runes the first time i kill her? Is going back again and again just going to leave me with a lot of low runes?

The Countess is your best bet for finding most runes. Her drops are always the same, regardless of whether it's your first or five-hundredth time killing her. Yes, she drops crappy ones a majority of the time, but you'll eventually find better ones if you kill her more times. And keep in mind that she can drop higher runes in higher difficulties. Though if you're looking for High Runes (Vex-Zod), you'd probably be better off just killing random monsters in high level areas in Hell difficulty.

Countess drops the same no matter if it is the first or the 1000th time you kill her. Most likely you will find 91250 el runes before your first good drop...
The best way to find a good rune is to kill many monsters.
10000 monsters has a lot lower chance to drop high runes than 10000 countess drops, but it takes an awful lot longer time to rush countess.

Roaming through worldstone keep is a good way, cows is another, river of flame/chaos sanctuary is a third... High level monsters in large numbers is the way to go imo.

yea....the best rune i've found off the countess is a Fal....and i've run her several hundred times...which is small in coparison to what some people do for runs.

You can always cube up her runes too...also, the monsters in her area can drop up to a Zod rune....but you're better off finding high lv areas with lots of baddies in them...as mentioned above.

How about destroying Mephisto's soul stone? Dont you get good runes sometimes doing that?

The hellforge can drop some good runes, though it takes significantly longer to run those on a continual basis when compared to the countess, as each player can only do the hellforge once.

The only other quest that gives runes is the "rescue soldiers" quest in Act 5. Apart from that, you'll need to find runes off monsters, or trade for them with other players.

There are three activities per difficulty that gaurentee runes:

The Countess
Hell Forge
Rescue the Barb (three runes from Kayhsek as reward)


of those, you can do the countess over and over to get runes each time.

1) Killing monsters able to drop high runes in big numbers can bring you better results.
2) Also opening a lot of chests (preferably in full games).

good areas
Flayer jungle/Spider Forest with those little flayers
Moo Moo farm with those Cows (able to drop Zod)
Chaos Sanctuary - lvl85 area, and stranglers have higher chance to drop runes
Lower Kurast chests - a lot of chests there, including 3 or 6 superchests
Sewers lvl2 - 4? superchests and other
Arcane Snactuara - a lot of monsters (Wraith's have higher chance to drop runes) and superchests at dead ends...

i dun think it will affect the quality of the runes juz the chances of not gettin a no drop will increase..

Actually, thanks to very special Countess drop, it's better to run her solo (1-player game).
She has 2 types of drop
- normal item drop up to 5 items
- special rune drop up to 3 items

Because the normal item drop is selected first and she can't drop more than six items, in full games she tends to drop 5 normal items (that includes runes up to Vex - but with the similar probability as from other monsters) and only one item from her rune drop (up to IST).
In solo game , you will see 2 or 3 runes from her more often.

Her item drop can drop up to a Lo rune, which is probably what you meant :wink3:

Nope in fact it can lower the chances.
Orphan can explain it better than I, but basically with a full game she has a better chance to drop other stuff and that cuts into her rune dropping chances.
