Fred has an excellent miniguide at in this thread:

Basically, use full Cleglaw for the IAS and crushing blow and scaling damage. Use Twitch for more IAS and to help the terrible blocking on the Cleg's shield. Use Goblin Toes for more crushing blow. Get some AR from rings, and do what you can to have decent resists.

As far as stats: enough STR and DEX for gear (55 and 39 for the sword) and the rest in VIT.

As far as skills: zeal (at least 4) + fanaticism (check the IAS breakpoints) + Holy Shield (since your blocking is poor)

After that, it's a balance between Sacrifice and Zeal and maxing Fanat- if you are having AR problems, boost Zeal for better AR and some better damage, if you aren't having problems hitting things, boost Sacrifice for the better increase in damage.

This is an excellent PvM build- it's not just Fred that thinks that Cleglaw's is a wonderful set!

Bessides the thread Purplelocust mentions, I also found these referring to Zealers.

What kind of zealer? PvP? PvM? Specifically vs sorcs, specifically melee etc.

There are many tyypes of zealers and one that is effective at one thing is often very poor at another, build yours up for a specific purpose imo, theyre very 1 dimensional chars.

Tell me what and i can help you out, although i think the best purpose a zealot in classic is suited for is pvp melee only duels

Hmm. Well i suggest you just make a melee dueler, melee gear primarily, with resist gear on switch for fighting casters

Anyhow... heres what i suggest you use

30 ias nice dmg knout- or 40 ias nice dmg naga
Bfist
Rcage
Gtoe
Angelic combo
Sback
Deaths belt
3X pruby helm

Max fanat
Max zeal
Max sacrifice
1 to salvation, rest to holy shield/ w/e (defense is NOT an issue at all)

On the side, 3 pdiamond shield, 3 psaph/ptopaz shield (optional)

Hotspur, hawk, 20 pris stacked cr/lr ammy... Basically just resist gear... should be easy to figure out

Stats- nuff str/dex for gear, rest to vita.
