Hello,

I am working on getting gear via a magic-finding sorc for a paladin I wish to use to eventually solo the Ubers in Trist. My concern is, covering all his resists...

175 resists in Hell - 30 via quests = 145 to cover in gear.

I have Chains of Honor (65/all) for his body armor, so I need to get 80/all from other spots.

WEAPON: Grief
GLOVES: Draculs (I need to get this still, for life tap. it has no resists).
BELT: T-Gods. (Lit Absorb)
RING: Ravenfrost (Cold Absorb)
RING: Dwarf Star (Fire Absorb)
BOOTS: Goblin Toe, upped. (for Crushing Blow)

HELM: I have Andy's Visage, which is great for everything but the -30 to fire resist. I also have Shako. I could try to get a Guill's Face or Kira's via trade. Face would give a nice CB bonus, or Kira's would give great resists. Let's assume I get a Face or use Shako -- so no resists on helm.

AMULET: I have various uniqs and rares, but a Mara's would obviously be best. I need to find one, or trade for one, but that's expensive... anyway, assume I use an amulet with about 20-25 res/all.

This leaves me about 60/all to cover on the shield slot. In other words, a PDiamond gemmed pally shield or a PDiamond gemmed Hoz. Exile, if I could even get one, would seem to be out of the question.

My options appear to be:

1. Shako/Face/Visage + Hoz/PDiam gemmed
2. Kira's + Exile (this combo would be harder to get than Face/Hoz, right?)

I may be able to get enough charms to make up for the -FR on Visage.

Does this sound like a resonable plan to all you pallies out there? I'm not sure what else to use. A Stormshield somehow? Maybe put something in Dwarf Star's place? Maybe Face for helm + different boots (which have resists) instead of Goblin Toe?

thanks,

Brian

Get the Guillaume's face and use a HoZ. Forget Exile, Life Tap is already covered by Dracs. If you're still in doubt as to whether or not it will trigger in time, you can always use a wand to cast it before battle, then Dracs will constantly maintain it.

If you still think you are desperate for resist, I see a few other options. Scantuary shield, or Kira's + HoZ (which is what I used). Finally, there's the treachery prebuff.

i use 3 ~15 all res gcs...that helps greatly...since i don't need ar/life gcs (since i plan on smiting ar is not an issue....

this way you won't need to switch around your gear at all..

Just so you know, uber Meph's conviction aura will lower your resist by 125, so your ultimate goal should be 300 resist, not 175.

Yes, I agree, a um'd kira would be extremely nice in this situation.

For the boots, why not Gore Riders? You only lose 10% CB and you gain some Deadly Strike and Open Wounds. They have also higher defense. They aren't too hard to find.

For the gloves, go with Laying of Hands. 50% fire res (which you really need) and +350% damage against Demons (although you already have that one well-covered with other gear). These are fairly easy to find.

For shield, go with Exile. This offsets the loss of life tap by changing the gloves as mentioned above. You also get a big boost in defense, you get the defiance aura, you also get a +5% to max resists in cold and fire. It also gives you a plus to freeze target. If you can, make it in an etherial shield (it self-repairs!) but find the shield with good base resists. The downside is the rune cost.

I like the UMed Kiras idea. Never really thought about that. I have an UMed Vampire Gaze to help keep up my mana and to get me some life leech before my lifetap kicks in. I also get a nice 15% damage reduction from it in addition to magic damage reduction.

You have the absorbs nicely covered.

You have a couple of other options for unique charms. Maras is good, but Metalgrid would probably be better (as a bonus, it can give you an iron golem which could be useful if made with the right item). Saracen's Chance also has some resistances, but not as good as the other two items.

I haven't found any mana leech in your configuration. You are going to need a little to keep your zeal going.

thanks for the replies guys, here is an update:

the pally is level 69, and has 75 base STR. he is using Sigon gloves (10 str) and has 4 str from charms. this enables him to put on HoZ, and then the chain reaction starts -- I am also using CoH, TGods, Guill Face, Gore Riders, Grief, Raven, Dwarf, and an ammy that is 23/all and some MF.

So, I took the advice about the Gores. I may go toward an Exile build in the future, but don't have all the runes or correct socketable shield yet. The HoZ is pretty nice as-is. I acquired a Perf resist Kira's (70/all), but an not high enough level to use it yet (and Gull's may be better overall anyway -- not sure!). When I hit 76, I will put on my Drac's, which are in stash.

coming along nicely! I was using Sigon set until level 68, fyi. heh. I just now put on all the other gear.

Now I'm thinking about my stats. I will probably put no more in STR, lots in Vit, and of course none in energy. Even without mana leech I can zeal all day. I'm not sure how much to pump DEX -- I have max Holy Shield, so even without pumping Dex every level, I can keep max block. I have like 40 stat points saved up right now, if not more (and 200 Vit).

Going to move to Hell now!
