Its a new Gateway laptop, specs are definitely enough to run D2 (except maybe the 64mb video memory?), but occasionally it will freeze up when I get into the game. It just did so twice, once while on West Ladder and then the second time, right aftewards, before the Blizzard logo even loaded up. Any thoughts or ideas? I was running mIRC and bittorent at the time of both freezes.
I don't think the Mirc or Bittorrent would have caused the freezing, especially during the loading of the game's logo's at the start, unless there was some sort of conflict (at which point it'd be the first I've ever heard of it).
What video mode are you playing on? I've heard of some problems with certain types of video cards too (NVidia comes to mind).

generic built in Intel(R) Extreme Graphics card. What do you mean by video mode? Resolution in game is 800x600, and the screen resolution for my computer is 1280x800.
What do you mean by video mode?
During the installation, a video test should have been run, and you should have had the option of using DirectDraw (2D), Direct 3D or possibly some other ones (depending on your video card).
You can do the test again by running D2VidTst.exe, from your installation directory. You might want to make sure that it's set to DirectDraw.

Crap, not what I wanted to hear. I was enjoying the shiny 3D graphics that my old computer couldn't handle.
Did changing it to DirectDraw fix the problem?

I haven't changed it yet. I did just play for a while on Bnet and it didn't freeze at all. It's kinda hit or miss. I probably will change it the next time it freezes though.
Well, for the record, I switched from Direct3D to DirectDraw and didn't really notice any difference, except the games seemed to load a little quicker. It's probably just a matter of preference though.

Well I switched over to DirectDraw a couple days ago and had no problems until late last night when it froze up completely again. Not sure what to do now, except learn to live with it.
Are you sure that your laptop is not overheated? Overheating usually causes random freezes.
