I was just transferring some stuff. went to log onto other account and got some crap about Battle.net not being able to identify the version. What's causing this, and how can I fix it? And no, nothing else was installed recently.

Note: It'd be awesome if anyone can save my stuff too. stuffness///moo in USeast ladder. Not muc hthere, but if you save it, thanks.

How often do you get this error? It means that there might be something wrong with your installation. If you've gotten this error in the past, does it just correct itself automatically, or do you usually re-install the game?

Edit: Oh, and I tried to check your game, but it didn't exist. I was probably too late.

This is the first time I got that error, never reinstalled the game either.

*edit: Oh, and thanks for at least trying. I'm just glad that it was just some low level junk my barbarian grew out of instead of the stuff I was about to transfer over to him.

More often, I've seen this error happen to people who have installed some mod or something. Since you haven't installed anything, then one of your D2 files might have become corrupt.

Out of interest sake, does it still say patch 1.11 on the title screen. It probably will.

In any event, the only solution I've ever heard to this problem is to re-install and re-patch the game up.

Edit: I'd recommend a virus check and what-not before the re-installation too. It sounds like something has altered one of the game files.

Edit2: Do you get this same error when logging onto the other realms? I remember there being a problem (possibly back in patch 1.09) that resulted in this error, but only on certain realms.

Yeah, the patch on the title screen is still the same. Guess I'll have to reinstall then...

I've got this before, but it fixed itself on the next try.
The little Troubleshooting HTML file in your Diablo II directory says it might be caused by a virus, but I think it just bungs up sometimes.

I don't know if this is related to it but netgear wireless routers have some issues with battle.net and they seem to stop it at checking versions screen.

I have had this problem my friend found out how to fix it but im too lazy but it has worked for a number of people that have had similar problems
