View Full Version : Dying to Bartuc the Bloody???

i have a pvm singer barb, and right now he's doing baal runs.

I have no problem teleporting to throne, never even come close to dying. and never dies to the minions, except...

when the 3rd wave comes, 95% of the time i'm fine (lose maybe 300-500 of my 6.2k life). but every once in a while, my life goes down SUPER fast, so fast that before i can hit a full rejuv, i die. This never happens with any other wave. I know it can't be:

1. Bartuc being lightning enchanted. I have 85% lit res in hell and some absorb (tgods).
2. Conviction + LE. this is what i thought it was at first... but i carefully watched and the last 3 times it happened there was no conviction aura around Bartuc. Plus, I have stacked light res over 85% so even if he did have convic it wouldn't hurt that much.
3. physical damage. I am warcrying as the wave is coming down so none of Bartuc's minions ever hit me: they're all in stunlock.
4. him dying and being fire/cold enchanted. i have 6.2k life and max res all in hell, and no FE/CE monsters ever do even half my life in dmg if they die.

Other notes: my life doesn't go down all at once: it's in stages, but super quickly (a comparable example would be getting hit with the bugged poison spear of the Tomb Vipers around Nihlithak with a low-hp character). As I said, so quickly that most times i can't even hit the full rejuv button before i'm dead.

Anyone have ANY idea as to what this is? I'm so baffled by it, it's happened at least 6 or 7 times now and it's getting frustrating. I now just stay out of the pack on the 3rd wave of minions, and then go back to the middle on the 4th wave.

Any info would be really really helpful. thx!

Sometimes it seems some combination of LE with FE, CE, Spectral Hit, and/or Extra Strong can result in buggy LE damage. I believe the most common is LE/FE/ExtraStrong, not sure about LE/FE/Spectral.

Him releasing FE/CE explosions when he goes into hit recovery, if he has the appropriate mod. This happens to any unique with LE and CE or FE. IIRC if one has LECEFE (the order doesn't matter) both explosions are launched twice.

I found pretty often a scarab just like RTB says (CEFELE) in the maggot lair. DEADLY scarab, I must add

the most weird thing is that my hammerdin never died to bartuc, while my barb did several times...:scratch:

Maybe block% is involved ? I noticed this same problem I guess, cannot remember if it was 1.10 or 1.11 though, but I had a 5k life full res/some absorb Druid who sometimes just got pwned with no apparent reason.

and basic cold enchanted scarab boss, even in act 2 normal is a pain because they launch their cold damage with each bolt they release, which of course means constant chill for you and a faceful of pain

ahh that makes more sense. So he's releasing his FE or CE dmg with his lightning bolts from getting hit, rather than just releasing it when he dies. I didn't know about that bug, thank you for clearing things up! I guess tehre's nothing i can do but steer clear of him when he's LE/FE/CE. thx guys!

also consider than multi-cast or whatever its called sends out 3 lightning bolts instead of 1, this might not be the problem, nice life btw, mines only 5.3k (lvl 47 bo, need 3 more warcry skillers), might even stack with on death things like fire + cold explosion/nova, although i havent done tests for that.

It used to multiply the missiles fired by 3 or 5, determined on spawn, but now the mod no longer affects the bolts from Lightning Enchanted.

thx, wow nice bo lvl, mine's only 40 (I need skillers badly :-/ just can't find anyone who has em!). the reason my life's prob so high is because since i only have 2 skillers, most of my inventory is filled up with life or mana charms.

now at lvl 89 i have 6.5k life/1.5k mana :grin:

'Grats. I built a singer too - made it on the ladder in fact with him (UsEast L), they are really fun. I too have noticed the exploding-dieing thing. It's good to have an explanation as to why :grin: . I usually just stand off a little to the side when the third wave comes out, then hop back into the fray for the last two.

Why is it that no one dies in pub baal runs then? I've never died to such reasons in my life, and really even with all the bo + oak I don't think any of my non barb / pal / druid chars have over 6+k life. Or is it extremely rare and yet happen frequently to you singers?

What pubs are you running - to say no one dies is completely farfetched. With that, Singers aren't the only ones I've seen this happen to. I've seen it knock out pally's and some melee barbs (all other classes tend not to stand in the way). I wouldn't say its frequent either. It also appears to happen based on where the monster lands, those mods Bartuc has that people mentionned previously, and your proximity. Like I said, I move slightly over when Bartuc spawns and I don't get hit.
