This should to be a viable solution to lost gear due to multiple bodies and leaving game. Since the game will take the body that has the most gold value, the body that will be chosen should be the original one with primary equipment even with multiple deaths. Unless you personally equip gear, there should be nothing on your subsequent bodies following the first death.
I'm not sure on the exact details of popping but this should solve accidental popping too, since unwanted gear will not be worn if you click on any junk on the floor.
Obviously, this will not prevent anything if you chose to equip items with higher requirements than the base character has, but that should be an assumed risk when this method is used.
I have no idea how hard an auto equip switch it would be to implement in a patch, but I would like to see it. I hate having the game automatically do something and having no control of.
