the other day i was playing around and fell for a scam. (I know I know what a newb) its was the ranking one. I had never heard anything about it and a few ppl that day were talking about it in chat so i thought it was legit, wrong. So i lost everything. my warning to you guys is. never try and check your rank or anything like that. if they say type /dnd (account/password) then something else DON"T DO IT! it changes your do no disturb thing to w/e you type. I lost all my great gear on my lvl 81. so don't let this happen to you

well as blizzard itself stated: blizzard will NEVER ask anyone for his or her password
gl with starting from scratch... i advice you to try the ladder, starting from scartch isnt that bad. Getting happy from finding gleglaws gloves etc:cloud9:

stupidly enough, i've done that as well, though oddly enough, nothing of mine was taken.
if your NL-USEast, then you might want to go check my FT list. i'm trading for pgems (and other things). pgems aren't all that difficult to get, so you may be able to get going again soon. but like stoutewolf said, you may want to try out ladder.

A couple of years ago I fell for some similar scam. I was lucky, after I did it I relized what I did and went into my accounts like 10 sec after I did it and changed my passwords on all my accounts, not just that one.
It got even funnier, that day and for like 6 months I would see failed to log in like so many times when entering bnet. Someone seemed to never give up LOL.
For me, I was lucky. Sorry to hear of your loss. If you are on useast ladder I can give you some items to trade with if needed.
Good luck, starting from scratch is not all that bad.

I lost my first account due to the DND scam.
You aren't alone

I ALMOST lost one of my accounts some time ago to DND scamming. When I was almost finished typing my password, I realized there was something suspicious about it, so I just typed the command without the password.
To my shock I saw I had entered DND mode. Due to my Starcraft battle.net experience I knew I was in grave danger, panicked and left Bnet. Soon afterwards I changed my password just to ensure...
I'd have lost a considerable amount of stuff too. :(

meh, i always join the channel and warn people not to do it, most of the time its a clan chief getting someone to do it for them so they dont get banned, so i made a bugged account, anyone who logs in will get their internet disabled for weeks, and thatll teach those damn scammers, try to spread the word, the dnd (do not disturb) they usually ask for rank or kill stats, etc.
