View Full Version : How to avoid IM death
I've been doing chaos runs with my din, but its such a pain when my merc dies from IM. Is there a way to avoid him being killed by IM? For example having an insight in a normal weapon? Or have lots of life leech?
Thanks

Insight in a low damage weapon is an option, but keep in mind that even with a low damage weapon, Act 2 mercs usually attack so fast that they can still poke themselves to death in a split second, especially with your hammerdin's Concentration aura on him. Your best bet is to learn what the IM curse looks and sounds like, and tele away as soon as you detect it.

Personally my best strategy vs oblivion knights is tele often to keep your merc next to you. And my second strategy is using a slow polearm e.g. CA as the extra 0.5 second may save yourself 50k gold.

the best way imho is to go for the oblivion knights first, that would also make the doom knights ez cakes.

IM pwns my merc.
The fortitude archon doesn't help the cause one bit. :embarassed:

well it's inevitable that merc gets killed in chaos sanctuary... i recommend not having a merc at all lol. my hammerdin never used a mana potion in pvm at all.
if u dont want to lose a merc so many times by doing chaos runs, dont use them. i'd rather solo chaos without him and use redemption, otherwise use a1 mercs.
stick to a1 mercs who can't be killed by im and use redemption often if u can.
wonderful aura :)

Another thing worth trying is to put a 'Treachery' on your Merc. Once the Fade triggers it essentially never turns off, and lvl 15 Fade reduces curse duration by a ton (of course as a Pally you could always just switch on Cleansing to get rid of curses...).
When i'm with a caster I just stay at a long distance until there are no mages left. When the merc eventually gets himself killed I just leave him until I clear the area.
When I'm melee I don't really need a merc at all (no need for insight) but always find I get hit by IM just after the first hit of a Zeal cycle...
Thanks for all the suggestions. My hammerdin is mainly pvp and I dont have redemption, so that idea goes out the window. I guess I'll just have to be more carefull and kill the mages first.
Again, thanks:thumbsup:

If you are going to run the CS, I recommend a ranged merc.

If you put insight into a plain scythe, and combine that with a teleport and attack the IM casters directly, ie tele past the line of melee types so you are on top of the mages, that could work. Otherwise just stay away, use a different char, etc.

IMO the best defense is a good offense in this case. Take out the oblivians before they can take out your merc.
