Awhile back, there was a thread about how to make the game faster using some programs that copy the cd to your harddrive. Something along those lines anyway.
Either that or saving mpq files directly in the d2 folder.

Some care to help me out with this as my connection has been terrible lately.

That thread was removed because those programs voilate the EULA, and therefore are not allowed to to be discussed or linked to here.

There are legal ways to make your game run faster though...

Close out of anyprograms that are running, and shut down background processes before you boot up the game.

Also, you can change your video setting from direct 3d to 2D Draw (i think that's what they're called)

You can play on lower resolutions as well.

More expensive ways involve getting a faster PC, or getting high speed internet (if you don't have it already)

you can take out the CD once the game is launched (title screen) but going to new acts/killing baal quest will require insertion of the cd again

or you can use a program like alcohol 120% to make an ISO and mount an image

unfortunately i don't know if the d2 cd has protection against creation of an ISO from it, in which case the above program can get around this as well (it is a very good program for many things) or you need to visit a more questionable site (won't say it here)

not sure if this is whut u are saying above me but a whil eback i had a job where i worked on a computer in a back room...i played diablo all day at work basically...but i tried making a copy of the LOD cd with CloneCD so i can just install the game on the work computer and instead of bringing my LOD disc everyday just leave the copy there...turned out it booted the game ok but then when i went to log into BN it said something about something not matching up so i had to bring my LOD disc every day

not sure if thats whut u were trying to say by making an ISO out of it but whut the hell i figured id throw my 2 cents

what he's talking about is saving the contents of the D2 CD onto your hard drive as an .iso file. You then use a Daemon tool to emulate a physical CD rom drive, but it acctualy runs as a piece of software...

I don't wanna get too far into this though, without the Mods OK...I'm not sure if running D2 in a daemon drive as an ISO violtes the EULA or this Forums rules...it's pretty touchy...

This trick saved my playing experience.
I used to have humongous cast lag, and a while ago I switched to directDraw and my necromancer no longer casts through mud.
