View Full Version : How good is Infinity on a merc really?

Infinity offers conviction, -85% resists, which is -17% in hell, is it really a good choice for a merc with a Meteor/orb sorc?

It doesn't even break normal cold immunes does it?

Insight really has me spoiled with almost unlimited mana from base pts, and merc does ok staying alive with it too.

Stick with your insight for your sorc then. =)

Infinity doesnt break many immunities in hell.

On a cold sorc, Infinity doesn't really offer much.
But if you were a light sorc, Infinity turns you into a she-hammerdin.

It stays -85%resists in hell, it only becomes -17%resists when you're encountering imuuns (and only for those imuuns, once the immunity is broken, the rest of your gear, cold mastery and facets, lower the resistance further)

for a sorceress, if you have to worry about low mana, then u better worry about your sorceress.

infinity on your sorc's merc for a lite sorc is very helpful.

Infinity absolutely owns everything with a Light sorc. You RARELY find an enemy in hell who is light immune with Infinity on your merc -- and then, it only happens with a rare/superunique, so you merc can easily take him, as there's only one enemy.

Use something else for any other sorc build.

Question: how are you running out of mana? i use an eth reapers on my meteorb merc, and i rarely run out of mana -- this is while teleing at 105fcr and spamming fireballs like it's my goddamn job.

ES with no points in TK, drastically can empty your mana pool.
Or maybe he just has Base energy?

I tought its better for a cold sorc because of CM...

Guilty of both, ES with 1pt in tk, and base mana, but as long as my bubbling buddy is alive and not too far away my mana is fine.

I still don't have tals armor, and just last night did hell anya and switched from spirit shroud to vipermagi with a net boost to my resists of 40+ pts. Poison still hits pretty hard, but I didn't die once doing Anya, and it was REAL nasty with gloams and snakes, 2 player since I parked my necro in town just in case and to up the drops, but merc sure died a LOT. Changing to a more chickenly RUN back each time I made contact with the next pack eventually kept us both alive pretty well, but I used a LOT of full rejuvs.

Maybe I will add a lightning sorc to my sorc farm, does look like at least cow fun.

I tought its better for a cold sorc because of CM...Infinity is not very good for a cold sorc since it fails to break many of the cold immunities, and if it can't break the immunity, the -% enemy resist from Cold Mastery can't apply itself.

So why is it better for Lightning? Is lighning resist on lighning immunes lower than cold resist on colfd immunes? the -% to light resist wont work if it is on the merc...

yes, normally. And fire immunes too, though infinity is a lot more use on a firesorc than a cold. -85 doesn't do much if you have -1xx anyway.

1 extra player in town does not make monsters drop more items, it gives more hp and exp though

Link with proof?

Last time I checked, more players = more drops, with 3 players being the ultimate number for boss running. No chance of a No Drop, and still easy enough to kill quickly for even mediocre players...

more players = more drops is true but....

2 players with 1 in town = 1 player drop
2 players both in same area = 2 player drop
3 players with 2 in town = 2 player drop

basically you need 2 extra players in town to get the same mf drop as 1 extra player in the same area. This info comes from a few drop calcs I have seen but I do not know where it is officially posted.

Check in statistics forum, but then, what is proof?

With my infinity merc I rarely run into problems in hell with her. I do my own priv baal runs for mf with her and don't have to worry about the souls in there b/c of the infinity w/ a blast of 43k lite dmg they die rather quickly.

my merc wears an eth 30res fort w/3kdef an andys helm (non eth atm but looking for one) and an eth cv infinity 265ed (low ed ) but still pwn's pretty much anything till he get's IM'd in chaos (lol).
