I played back in .09, I believe, and early .10. I remember seeing the big "uber Diablo" guy come out, but shortly after that, I sold all my stuff on eBay and quit to play Final Fantasy XI.
Well, I'm bored of all the other games I've tried out, and I want to return to D2. but I have two issues.
1.) I spent three days searching for my disks, and now that I've found them, they are mostly scratched up so badly that they are unusable. I still have the keys and the expansion disc, but the installation and such disks are irrepairable. Anyone know a way around this? Possibly someone can send me the files via MSN or AIM or something? I'm not sure if this illegal or not, but since I already bought the game, I don't see why it would be. The main reason I want to go back to D2 is because it's free and I'm a broke college student with too much free time, so I'm not wanting to rebuy everything. ($40-50 USD -.-")
2.) What are the major changes I should know about? I remember getting really excited over the linking skill system, and made a hammer paladin that kicked. But I can't really remember very much. What changes should I know about between .09 and .11 before I start playing? I'd hate to get on and seem like a total newb.
Hey, welcome back

I don't see how this should prevent you from purchasing another copy of the game. When you bought the game, it became your reponsibility. This means that if it were to ever become damaged or unusable, the responsibility lies with you, and you would need to purchase another copy of the game in order to continue playing.
The same concept applies to alot of items that are purchased, including stereo systems, iPods, computers, tables, chairs, etc. This just shows that it's important to take care of your stuff
Likewise, alot of the D2 files are pretty big, so finding someone to transfer them over AIM or MSN would be a mission in and of itself.

Well, I am downloading the game via torrents, and hoping I don't get some wacky trojan or something. I'll scan the file and all, of course.
It's been going all night and is only at 45%. I'm so impatient though... :'(
If your exp disc still works, you only need to buy the original game. Right now (in the Netherlands) it is on the table: 3 for 25 euros (so ~10 dollars)

Actually I would strongly advise you not to do that, there are some pieces of malware that are pretty unique to Diablo, and your virus scanner may fail to detect theses. So don't come back and complain all your items are stolen...

Whooha, really a lot changed since 1.09. The skill system got a major update through synergies (that's what you mean with "linking skill system"), so most builds that were good in 1.09 are pretty much unusable in 1.10/.11. Oh, and there is a load of new items and runewords, which really changed the game. too. So I'd suggest to read some character guides before startig. And read the Arreat summit (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/), especially the items, rune words and horadic cube formulars.

You can get replacement cd's from bliz for $10 US here in the states.

But how can you be THAT cheap to risk losing your entire computer, accounts items, due to trojans, spyware and/or viruses over the cost of a single movie ticket??? COME ON!!!!!!

Any idea how long that broken and lost disc replace takes? I know many places take weeks to respond or get items out to you, and I'd rather splurge on the extra $10 to get the discs at Wal-Mart.
I don't really trust downloading it either. But I'm so damn impatient, haha.

durrutti: Yeah, and I bet you'd drink the rest of half a can of soda if you found one in a parking lot. :yikes:
Matsudai Meiyo: Probably take a couple of weeks. I'd go to someplace like Babages or EBGames where they have used copies. I wouldn't use the keys from a used copy though for fear of that key being previously banned.
Good luck!
How is d2 so friggin expensive overthere? Here in romania I bought D2 and exp for 9euro a piece, 18 euro in total. How is this possible?

We RE-elected George W. Bush as president and you ask how we could overpay for D2????
C'mon! We're Americans!!! :dunce:
Seriously, a lot of stores haven't changed the prices on the boxes since D2 or LOD came out. It can take some shopping (online or real life) but there are deals out there.

The sell a game for about 5 years with the same price? That's a wired contry you live in :wink2:
If a game is older than a year, you'll get it for more or less half the price here in germany, and games like D2 sell for ~12 EUR. The only problem is, the games are translated and I HATE translated games (well, unless they are from a country with a language I don't understand )

Standard prices for new-in-box are:
$20 D2 classic
$20 LOD
$40 Battlechest
But, considering how much I've played this game (so far!!!) and that there are no monthly fees, it'd be cheap at twice the price!!!

HAH! I got lucky and my friend had his discs. He told me he didn't have them before, but he found them in his CDs by accident.
I've been playing USEast Ladder with a summoner necro (Acct: Matsudai.Meiyo). I'm only like level 21 right now. Thanks for all your input guys.
