My Character - A Lost Cause?

I've built my first sorceress over the last 10 days or so. I've just finished NM with my playing buddy, but he seems to be having a much easier time than me.

I'm not sure if this is just because he's a better player, I need to sort my gear out, or because I've gone wrong with my character and it's beyond repair!

Attached is a screenshot of my stats and skill tree. I'd just like some advice on a) what I need to be doing with the remainder of my points and b) if I'll be OK soloing NM cows/early hell if I sort out my gear?
Basically, is it worth continuing, and where do I go next?

Bear in mind, my gear is terrible right now, so I can fix some things I hope. The only half decent item I'm wearing in that shot is Frostburns, and that's Hell resistances.

Get +3 cold ammy (gamble it)
Spirit sword (I assume you are on ladder, otherwise, move there since you are not losing any real gear anyways)

Collect some pgems and trade for stuff like wizard spike and vipermagi. Also, run nm mephisto until you have some amount of gear (ie. not complete trash).

So I've not screwed my stats/skills just yet?

What should I be doing? Still pumping Vit, or getting some dex for more block?
And skills; do I need to max Cold Mastery? And if so, before or after the rest of the synergies?

no, your skills are just fine for a cold tree sorc, but if you're planning on blocking I would figure out how much dex you need for your chosen shield and start pumping
