I know I am a noob, and I tried searching all over the web before I asked this question here. but I want to know before I invest the runes.

I am running a Pally, no set direction on which way I want to take it yet, like I said... NOOB! this is my first run through Diablo II so, I'll probably start the character over at least two more time before I get what I want out of him.

anyway, to my question, since I am running a pally, I want to have a Sword AND a shield at the same time. recently I ran across the "Breath of the Dying" Colossus Blade which is rather large. am I still able to have a shield with this sword?

if u use ebotd in a cb, u can't use a shield as a colossus blade requires 2h. only barbs can carry 2h weapons in 1h.
pallys will use ebotdz (eth breath of dying zerker) as its one handed, then they can use a shield.

and by zerker gorash means the elite axe called a berserker axe. it can get 6 sockets and is quite fast, which makes it a prime candidate for BotD.

my suggestion is to trade your BotD colossus blade (CB) straight up for a BotD zerker. I'm sure you'll find someone on bnet who will do that, with a little patience.

so, just to clarify...
if the item has both a "one hand damage" stat, and the "two hand damage" stat, the pally should be able to use both a larger Sword and a shield?

if this is not the case, which sword would you suggest that I use? I am having a difficult time finding a sword that does a reasonable amount of damage

if a weapon has 1h and 2h stat, it means that only a barb can carry that weapon in one hand, any other classes will automatically carry it in 2hands.
pallys will use no other base weapon other then a eth zerk for a botd. i've seen pb if u prefer to go that route but the dmg is just so low on it.

BOTD aside then. I really want to stay with a sword. maybe that’s because I am Naive, but the way I see it, Its my Character, and I want him to use a sword. lol
I've had a few maces that I've enjoyed, and a buddy gave me a battle axe that his character grew out of (its like I am talking about baby clothes *shudder*) but there is just something about a knight walking into battle with a drawn sword that appeals to my sense of how the character should be played. What do you mean by that?

sorry, "Phallic" was the word I was going for.

if u want to stick to a sword type runeword, u can try grief in a pb, lw pb, perhaps oath.
might of misssed something else.

And again, I ask, what do you mean by that comment?

I was hoping to stay as "Family Friendly" as possible, not being here long, I am not sure as to what the age group that frequents this place is...

that being said, I am going to go under the assumption that everyone knows what the definition of "Phallic" is, or what a "Phallus Symbol" is. if not, then I am not going to expand on it any more than to say dictionary.com will give you the answer you seek.

for example though, I didn't want the "...longer the sword the longer the *ahem*"

if this still doesn't make sense, then I have no idea how better to describe it without setting off the sensors.

Sure, I know what it is, as do most... but your'e missing the point here.

I'm asking you what you mean by keeping the comments on the main page, if by that you mean flames and trolling and such, thats what we have a report post feature for. If someone flames or trolls you report that person's post and we will take care of it.

I'm sorry, I thought that you meant that you weren't understanding what I meant by that particular word. miscommunication on my part. what I was trying to get across was a variation on the phrase "Leave it at the door" "or keep it out of here" or "I don't want to hear it" lol and then I tried to translate it into "web speak"
guess it didn't translate well

BotD is not meant to be in a 1 handed sword at all. You can try Grief PB if you insist on using a sword. Actually, it works great.

That would probably work too, but the only place that I've seen those Grief weapons is for Ladder Characters. I'm still unsure of the difference, but I don't think that I can use Ladder items on a non ladder character.
if I was running a Ladder character, I think that I would go for an "azureblade".
guess I'll just suck it up and grab a battle axe or a maul or some sort. let my hireling carry the BotD. lol

but I don't think that I can use Ladder items on a non ladder character.NL chars can equip Ladder items. You just won't be able to find Ladder-only uniques or make Ladder-only runewords on NL.
