So, I bought my game, and I've installed it, and downloaded the patch. Immediately after the patch is downloaded it asks me if I would like to submit my personal information, after telling it no (or yes), it will crash my computer. By crash I mean the Blue screen. After re-booting, I go to open diablo, Low-and-behold, my computer crashes again. After re-installing Diablo 7 times I still can't play. I run DirectX 9.0c, I have 512mb ram. My computer's decent enough to run Warcraft III, but I can't run Diablo 2? Anyone know how to fix something like this?

Have you tried to download and apply the patch manually through Blizzard's website: http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msc0387p or Blizzard's FTP site: http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/pc/?

Also, I don't fully remember the installation process, but I assume that the Diablo 2 Video Test was run? If so, what option did you choose (DirectDraw, Direct3D, Open GL, etc?). If it wasn't run, or if you didn't choose DirectDraw, trying running D2VidTst.exe from the installation directory and choosing DD, to see if theres a difference.

Yea, I chose the DirectDraw option (read from another forum, thought I'd try it out). Still not luck, basically I get the game installed, up and ready to play, then it reboots(crashes, I have auto-reboot on) and I can't re-open the game, otherwise it will reboot again.

I think my video card my have something to do with it. I have a:
S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR.

Ever heard of anything like that?

I also considered the possibility of my Computer Processor being an issue, after researching it, a lot of people use them... but I don't know. I've got an AMD Athlon XP 1700... I would think that'd be Well over compatible.

Ah, onboard video card? I haven't actually heard of anyone experiencing the exact same problem that you have (rebooting) but alot of people have had problems with the game crashing.

It could be your video though, have you tried updating the drivers?

I did a quick search on Blizzard's site and they mention some problems with WarIII, when using a S3 ProSavageDDR video card, though I guess you haven't experienced these problems: http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=aInformation0731p1

Ironically, I can play Warcraft 3 just fine. As far as the reboots go for my system, it's the same as the blue screen, it's just set up so that when the blue error screen comes it, It auto-reboots. Anyway, I'm getting a new video card tomorrow, I'm off for tonight, but I'll repost letting ya know if it helps

BTW, the drivers are up to date. Appreciate your input though!

It's nice to know that you are getting a blue screen, but that is pretty worthless information unless you are able to tell us what it says.

When you do the Video Test for D2, try selecting the 2D option instead of 3D.

It's nice to know that you can be a prick. Before you reply, perhaps you should pay attention to my posts. If you'll notice, in my posts, it says something along the lines "When I try to reopen the game it reboots. Yes, blue screen for about 1/2 a second... there ain't no pause button for it.

So I snagged an Nvidia GeForce4 4000, and my computer wouldn't boot with it installed, so after thinkin for about 15 minutes, I said to hell with it and threw the windows 2k install disc in there and Repaired. Apparently, all of this was happening due to corrupted windows file. Anyway, with the exception of Tripredacus, that's for all of your input.

This reminds me of a certain joke I've heard before.

A man in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a man outside a pub below. He descended a bit more and shouted:

"Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering approx 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees longitude."

"You must be in Production" said the balloonist.

"I am" replied the man, "how did you know?"

"Well" answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help far"

The man below responded, "You must be an Account Manager"

"I am" replied the balloonist "but how did you know?"

"Well" said the man "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You are in exactly the same position now that you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."
Not that I'm passing any judgement...

First do this:
Right-click My Computer->Properties->Advanced->Click Settings in "Startup and Recovery"->Uncheck "Automatically restart" in "System failure"-> Click OK all the way out. This will make sure that your machine doesn't auto-reboot after a blue screen.
Then try to run Diablo2 again to get the blue screen. Post the first few lines of the blue screen here, which contains the information needed for further diagnostics. We'll see if we can get any further from there.
Edit: never mind, missed your last message that you've reinstalled the system already.

Bummer that you're having probs. I'm new and having install problems my self. for some reason during the installation process it prompts me to insert "installation disc" for a second time, after previously inserting the "play disc", but when I comply nothing happens. It just sits there, as if my cd drive is just snoozing on the job. I have all the requirments as far as video and ram goes, but I do run Windows XP (i hate it) Any suggestions o' wise gods of Diablo?

Did you try to install your new video card with the onboard video card disabled from the bios? I had some issues with my Sound Blaster sound card before I disabled the onboard sound card. Just an idea..

I know this is going to sound incredibly patronizing, and I apologize for that, but I've seen someone have this problem before :

Have you pressed the "OK" button?
