View Full Version : Why is this happening? I BOUGHT my copy.

I recently bought Diablo II along with the Expansion pack. Not exactly sure how long ago, couldn't have been more than three weeks.
It's not letting me log in anymore. Everytime I try to log into bnet, it says
Your CD Key is currently being used by
CHRIS
The problem is, I'M Chris. That's what I registered my key as. This shouldn't be happening, and I'm confused why it is. It's really starting to get on my nerves.
It could be a few things.
1. D2.exe is running somewhere on your PC.
2. Someone hijacked your account. It would still be used as CHRIS since he just changed your password but the copy is still registered in your name.
I have a feeling it is 1. though. You are not trying to run *cough* loader are you?

I'll check to see if it's running somewhere...;>> I doubt someone would want to hack my account.
EDIT: I deleted a process titled Game.exe. Is that it?
Game.exe should be associate with Diablo 2 (though I'm not sure if some other games use a similiar file/process name). Stopping it might help you log back on, though I'm not sure because I would imagine some info would be kept on battle.net's servers that would probably just expire after a certain period of time.
When you get the message "The CD-Key is in use", is it usually straight after you've logged off?

The message is actually CD In Use by %COMPUTERNAME%
Since I imagine you named your computer CHRIS, this is why it shows up that way. If you log off and re-connect it should work. This is caused by your computer killing the connection but Battle.net has not received that request from your computer. At worst case, you will have to wait until Battle.net resets the inactive connection. Longest wait for me has been 30 seconds.

Are you using any filesharing programs?
If you share your diablo ii folder then whoever downloads it will get your cd-key as well, and it will still show your name as the user using the cd-key.

Diablo appears as process Game.exe to me as well.
The message is actually CD In Use by %COMPUTERNAME%
If you're referring to the one on bnet, then it's the name that you entered in during the Diablo 2 installation process that is shown. I've experienced it before, having the message "The CD-Key is in use by ." (that's a dot at the end, which definately isn't my computer name).

try rebooting your pc then logging on... that should terminate diablo and if it was running somewhere in your pc then you should get it back...

The dot is there because it is "The CD-Key is in use by %." so if for whatever reason it can't pull the name, it leaves it blank.
I see it both ways. My main computer it refers to the account name, my secondary computer puts the computer name in there.

The dot is there because that's what I used for the name when I installed D2 :wink3:

Sometimes people will open up the game package before purchasing it just to get a CD key for warez/whatever. This causes complications when you try to play, of course
I think it's just that you didn't log out properly, however, since it's your name.
The 'CDKEYNAME' things aren't tied to accounts, but rather to the keys themselves.
I think.
