Hi, i'm new here.
I have played a lot of LoD, but i had a cracked version for years, and i finally got around to buying it so i could play on battle.net. I must say i enjoy it a lot, mainly because of the availability of items compared to singleplayer.
I started a hammerdin just a couple of days ago, and i just got to hell and managed to trade me a wizardspike. I also just got a full sigon's set, so i'm ready to make a new char should i feel the need.
I don't really know what i want with this post other than to introduce myself, so... Hi, i guess.

Welcome to planet Legitimate!
Now that you're on bnet you should really look over the scam sticky thread at the top of this forum. You should also look over a few of the guides in the class specific forums. They'll both help you out a lot and prevent a lot of headaches.
Again, welcome!

Warning-95% of the people you meet on B.Net will be idiots that want nothing more than to scam you and call you noob for not using the most godly of items. Don't pay any attention to them and learn to use the squelch button. Last but not least, don't ever believe anything you hear on B.Net.

Sounds par for the course.

To prepare yourself for bnet...definite check out the known scams that are out there. Then read over the rules of the forum--not that you're breaking any right now but just do it to be safe.
Welcome to the forum btw

Yeah, i checked the scams, and i haven't had any problems with it yet. I just got to act 2 hell, and during sewers level 1, killing a burning dead archer, i got a bul katho's wedding band with 4% life steal. My first "good" item found on my own :)
I feel i'm really getting into this, and these forums seem like a very good community.

You've come to the right place. I suggest you focus on trading on these forums just to avoid the usual scams on b.net, so you will have some time to get used to the prices of items, etc... You will also need some basics like "how do I mule items to another char", "how do I whisp someone" and so on .
On which realm are you playing ? Non-ladder/Ladder ? Softcore/Hardcore ? Europe/USEast/USWest ? Just curious ...
Cya around !

EDIT : Just noticed you're on Europe

Yeah, Softcore Europe Ladder.
I read a couple of guides on muling, and i've managed to mule a sigon's set and a kahlim's will to a mule so far without problems. But it feels a bit unsafe to do in pubs and in games with no players.
And yeah, how do i whisper people? And what does the * in front of account names mean?
you whisper by writing /w *[account] [message]
What char do you play? I could hook you up with some stuff i dont need. Whisper me at *pedu or *pedu2
Oh, about the * infront of the account... Dont know. Maybe its just there to show that its an account youre talking about.

Well, the same can be said for the society i.e people you meet in the streets but that is not a good reason for staying home. I've met quite a few people on bnet that I really like and have known and played with for months. Yes, all of them mature, intelligent, educated and so on
As others have said, the forum is the best place for trading, although not a perfect one, so it might be a good idea for you to practice some trading on the realms as well, sure it can be annoying but it's worth it giving it a go.
My 2 cents,
Mike

You will find the following advices on this forum (Newcomer), but here's a quick summary.
There's no 100% safe way to mule stuff unless you have two computers or two D2 copies running under windows XP. So, the best way for muling on a single computer is the following :
- Make a normal private game. Why normal ? Because you want to join these games with your mules (usually level 1 characters). Why private (=passworded) ? Because you're sure nobody will join this game and grab your stuff.
- Stay in the game for 5 minutes (I usually count 6 just to be sure). Why ? Because if you create a game and you quit it before 5 minutes, b.net makes a sort of "garbage collector" and deletes this game from the servers. If you wait 5 minutes, even if you quit it without anybody in it, the game stays open for some minutes (=more than enough for you to switch characters and join with another one, i.e. your mule).
- DON'T SWITCH CHARACTERS TOO FAST or you will be unable to rejoin (you can be temp banned from b.net, and then you'll lose the stuff dropped in the muling game). A good advice is to wait 5 seconds between each action (quitting game / 5s / quitting account / 5s / opening another account / 5s / selecting the mule / 5s / rejoining game). With a little practice, you will eventually go faster and know how fast you can go without being temp banned .
Concerning the "*" :
- An account is represented by *MyAccount
- A character doesn't need an "*" : MyCharacter
- In an account *MyAccount, you can create up to 8 characters MyCharacter1, MyCharacter2, ...
To whisp someone (in this example, FNX-SnowWhite is my Blizz Sorc, on my *FNX-HEROES account) :
/w *fnx-heroes Hi Frosty !
/w fnx-snowwhite Hi Frosty's Sorceress !
Hope it helps  !

Thanks a lot! I play hammerdin at the moment, just to get started. I'm possibly concidering a meteorb sorc after this char, but that will be a while from now i think.
Frosty_The_Snowman: Thanks a lot
Also, there's another great guide stickied in this forum (guide to building wealth) that would be well worth your while.

I've met quite a few people on bnet that I really like and have known and played with for months. Yes, all of them mature, intelligent, educated and so on The difference between D2 and people you meet in real life is that there's no anonymity in meeting people on the streets. Further more, there's consequences for your actions in the real world which means that generally, people will control their behavior even if they feel like acting otherwise, unlike in D2 where you can spew the most vile filth and steal as many items as your heart desires and nothing will happen to you.

I guess I'm not new, played up to v 1.09 and somewhat during the first ladder season before job took me away. Now that I am back a lot of things have changed making me feel like the old familiar twangs of noob-ness. So please excuse me if I happen to ask a dumb question, I will try to avoid if capable.
