How about learning the value of items? For starters, identify each and every blue or yellow barb/druid helm you find or each and every blue circlet/coronet/tiara/diadem, each and every elite blue paladin shield or blue monarch/ward. Start playing in areas like the pit that good items will drop eventually.

highest one i have found was lo. i saw a ber drop, but i didn't get it.

i've been playing since 2000 and ive only seen a gul and vex....:cry: ..

but king is right..you can trade..thats how i accumulated "wealth" to get other stuff..realizing whats worth selling to charsi vs other players....

granted this is from hundreds if not thousands of runs..killing of different bosses...so really my creme de la creme is not that great..but good enough to get me some upgrades (via high runes/ists)....

but as yet i have never seen a HOZ (or arachnids) drop....so they must be pretty damned rare.....

The dupe market is really a mix blessing. In a way it ruin the economy and the balance of the game, in another it help people get the items other wise would be extremely rare.
I don't understand blizzard when the designt he runeword. Engima is fine, 2 hi runes... so you do forge for ~6 months continously I'm sure you'll find enough gul to make jah and ber. But that's 6 months, a long time just to get 1 armor. What about last wish, infinity, and other items?

In a honest no dupe/hack/cheat game, it would be a rare event to see one with just one of these godly item, but now.. you'll see paladin with LW/Pheonix; Grief/Exile on switch, and on the merc, fort/pride (like me).

I think the solution to the problem is to increase rune drop rate, the current drop rate is just nonsense. And/Or make a quest similar to forge that would allow higher level rune to drop. I much rather make the uber tristram immue (or less susceptible) to CB (encouraging team work instead of solo smite pally), and have each drop a hi rune instead. As for hellfire charm, make it a hell quest with some degree of diffuculty, and a minimum level requirement for it to drop, that'll make it much more valuable then it is right now, you can get a low Hellfire for Pul rune, which is godly for an LC, which make no sense to me.

Oh as for legit rune drop.. since the expansion released to now, I found ONE (1) Vex rune. That's it.

I was trying to be friendly, I don't see what is so wrong with my post to deserve this reply. 7 steady years that you play the game...It started during summer of 2000,right? As for ebayers,not everyone in here is a 15 year old.

I salute thy. I really try to be like that, especially now that I just started Ladder, but no I had to cheat and get 20 L runes via NL wealth, and made a first Ladder char of a HDin that just owns pvm + pvp -.-:embarassed:

One thing for sure though, that 90% of the Enigma's out there are from bought Jah runes.

I got lucky...I had friends playing a looong time,so I ended up really fast with Spirit,Enigma and Shako,then some War Travelers,a Wizardspike,and a Druid Torch,then a puny Gheed.Got+7 all skillz and the guyz are looking right now for stuff to make a HotO.I hava a hammerdin,started it out after not playing D2 since 1.09.I've asked my buddies where the heck do they get all those runes(I was personally asked to help assemble 3 Enigmas!One of these guys has a stash full of ists!) ,they said they had them from trades.Personally,after playing for a week now,the biggest rune I got from a creep was Hel...And the best rune these guys had seen drop is vex...in the act4 quest.There is a 1 in 32000 chances or somthn zod will drop baal.So...of course everyone dupes!I'm only curios how the hell do they do it?Cause there are TONS of expensive things out there(come on...Enigma!!!).

Ive played d2 for 3-4 years. Jah/Ber/Ber/Jah/Vex/Vex/Ohm/Ohm runes dropped. This isnt even from TRYING to mf because i dont mf. These are from leveling from cows and baal. You dont need to ebay to get runes either. Just trade or level service. It doesnt take a genius to get rich in the d2 world, sorry.

to get rich in D2? you really want to know?

1. Make a Hammerdin or a lightning sorc.
2. level up to 80+ (eazy with baal runs)
3. make 2 spirit(shield and sword) cheap runes. MAD resistance, MAD fcr, MAD mana, MAD +4 to skills.
4. PWN the shiznit out of cows, council, eldrich, pindle or shrenk.

cows tend to drop good socketable elite items that can trade up to 4-5 high runes. example: an archonplate/boneweave/dusk shroud/scarab husk with a defense of 500 or more will trade for a high rune if it is 3 sockets, 4 sockets or unsocketed(unsocketed means someone can cube sockets or use quest to get the max 4 sockets)

after you get your high runes, trade for Jah and Ber and make enigma.

FINAL STEP: teleport to all boses and do key or mf runs. a key set is worth a hr about now..
