Potions and the shift key

Wow. I can't tell you how many times I have died doing Nihlathak runs because of this. Here's what happeds, plain and simple. While holding the shift key down to chuck hammers, you cannot use a potion on your belt. Well, actually you do use it, it just doesn't do anything. Full rejuvis don't give you full health/mana. And don't say "just take your finger off shift!" because worrying about Nihl, my merc, the stupid *** bugged vipers that own me even with 80 pois res, the idiot mage archers, and trying to use a potion all at once is just retarded.

This isn't a bug. While holding shift key, your merc will drink the potion. (Unless it's a mana pot iirc)

Yes, not a bug as Hrus says.

You could try and remap the Stand still-button to something else than Shift to avoid giving the merc potions while standing still.

Whats annoying to me is how it changed from 1.10 to 1.11. In 1.10 if you drink a mana pot while holding shift, it still went to you, since the merc doesnt care for mana pots. In 1.11 you merc curses at you, and noone gets the pot. Slight annoyance, hard to get used to when 1.11 first came out, no biggee now.

However, if you are constantly using life/juvie pots to stay alive, you need to re-analyze your gear/life/strategy. For instance, dont walk through the poison cloud... you can stand in it, tele through it... but dont walk or run through it.

What char/build are you using, maybe we can offer some advise?

My Javazon is a bit low in mana, but since pots are cheap/free I just use the belt.

I've re-mapped my keyboard (like most players do) so that my belt (on a standard US Keyboard) is "A,S,D,F". Since they are very close to the left shift key it's quite easy to release the shift for a sec to drink a pot. On a side note most my skill shifts are Z-N keys or the lower row. Since I can't type worth a crap this really helps out.

Heh. I knew what you were talking about but still enjoyed a chuckle as I imagined the merc voice swearing at you like an Italian in Brooklyn.
