merc question

oO.K. First off, I'm not sure if someone posted this question or if it was covered in a guide ( I looked but I didn't see it. Then again I didn't have my glasses on ) But i'm clvl 81 conc. barb and im using a lvl 78 nightmare defense merc, lvl'd him since around 50. I'm just wondering if this type merc was a good move or not. And also what should I equip him with. He has on now a Crown of Theives, CoH, and some pike with LL.
