Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Wasn't Steve Burns from Blue's Clues in that band? I always thought he was cute in his little striped shirt.
Have you heard Love and Anger by Kate Bush?

I looked it up on AMG and he was never in the band. Both Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev are listed as similar artists though, so maybe I should check him out. Steve Drozd from the Flaming Lips produced his debut album too.
I haven't heard Love and Anger. Which album is it on?

The Sensual World.
Ok then. I've heard all the albums up to and including Hounds of Love but I haven't heard anything newer than that.
Wuthering Heights is a "once in a century" song though, so I doubt anything I've missed can top it.

what no Metallica? "Master of Puppets" is widely considered to be the top metal album of all time!

It's good but not top five material.
What about an indie category

What kind of indie? I was thinking about an "alternative pop" category but that would piss too many people off. You add it.

The Beatles
Oasis
Stone Roses
The Verve
The Kinks
Close, but the correct list would be:
Spacemen3
The Beatles
Stone Roses
The Kinks
The Troggs
And remember, do never question my authority. Dross knows best. ;)
At least get Oasis in there somewhere  .
Even though i do like coldplay i was going to put them up but wasn't sure and i didn't like the new album as much as the first 2

Ok then lets have a category for the top Oasis albums
Whats the point?
1. Def maybe
2. Morning Glory
3. Eh..... Thats it!
Newest one is supposed to be good, but meh. Nowhere near as good as anything on the first 2.
True the newest one was the only one that ever came as close to beeing as good as the first albums. Thats not to say the other albums weren't good i liked them all.

Be Here Now had a coupla good songs on it (Stand by me I liked & all around the world was cool) but Shoulders of giants I couldnt even listen to all the way thru it was so dull! :undecided: Havent bothered since, but would give the latest a go as ppl say its good
How about narrowing it down? Top 5 Beatles songs:
1. Fool on the Hill
2. I am the Walrus
3. Lucy in the sky
4. Sgt pepper's
5. Across the universe
& loads I've missed too....
Cant stand the early stuff (I wanna hold your hand etc.) too much like pop for me!

Strawberry Fields? A Day in Life?
I really liked Help
I liked most of the beatles and would need to think hard before i put them in any order
Though i really liked the Oasis b-side album "The masterplan"
I know most people will say i am wrong but the version Oasis done of "i am the walrus" was better than The Beatles version  . I know most of my friends disagree but a few think i am right .
As for Be here now i liked it people were too hard on it.
I did like Standing on the Shoulder of Giants
And i recomend you go and listen to the new Oasis album.
Has any one heard of Arctic Monkeys ?
They are fairly new but all ready there debut album is said to be like what Definitely Maybe was for Oasis

& loads I've missed too....
They would fall into this category!
But those are my top 5, Strawberry Fields was too.... something for me, cant really explain! Think it falls into the 'too pop' bit!
I would put Ob-la-Di in there before either of those two, but a day in the life is pretty good, groundbreaking if you will!
I know most people will say i am wrong but the version Oasis done of "i am the walrus" was better than The Beatles version
Argh! Burn him! Burn him!
Arctic Monkeys won best newcomer at the brits (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/news/brits2006/winners.shtml) last night. As I posted in some thread a few wks back, they are gonna be vv big. When the sun goes down- You can hear the grime & scum on that song!
Yeah i would have said but i didn't think anyone would care about the brits  .
iirc they are playing at T in the park this year.
Looks like they will be playing in Glasgow in about a month and a half. Tickets are not on sale but i think i will go

That's impossible. It's like a worst movies list. There are way too many to choose from.
Only one I can think of that's a given on that list is Philosophy of the World by The Shaggs.
I'll never respect your authority Dross if you keep putting up sub-par lists.
All very good choices and get regular playtime in my collection, but my lists are far superior according to my ears.
....and yes I'm confident enough to not even care about proving it.

Chris Bell, Tim Buckley, Big Star and Kate Bush are all from the seventies. If you missed them first time around you should check them out now. Especially Tim Buckley. I think he's exactly what you've been looking for.

I didn't want to say it myself.
Seriously people. Metal bands are usually the most accomplished musicians to be found in popular music. The songs are exactly your typical three chorder either.
EDIT:
Who the hell is Spaceman3

Or you could look them up at AllMusic.com
And yes, you will thank me later.
What an empty comment, it also makes it hard for me to take you seriously. -_-
Point taken, that was harsh. Who am I to judge what I haven't even heard? Still, I find metal far too dissonant and repetitive for my taste, but then I can only take artists like John Coultrane or Pharoh Saunders in small doses also.
3 songs to be played at my funeral.
3. Fade to Black - Metallica
2. Down in a Hole - Alice in Chains
1. I won't see you tonight (part1) - Avenged Sevenfold

Great choice. That's one of the best Metallica songs.
Down in a hole ain't bad either.
