View Full Version : What to socket in Arreat?
I was just wondering, checking out the FHR tables, I realised that the shael in my arreat only gives 1 frame faster. Is it top-notch necessary to reach the 48% breakpoint?
With this in mind, i wondered, what should i socket in my arreat instead. The most common would be 40/15's, but those are out of my price-league, with the extreamly high cost of those. Then again, so are all 40/9's and such. A Pruby would only give 94 life, which is not even too good. As i use widowmaker a lot (versus sorcs and hammerdins), i was considering either a 15 ias jewel or a Ko rune. But then again, a Ko rune wouldn't change much, since I would end up with 113 dex. Meaning I would need to use a ravenfrost, and that's what I do now, so nothing would change.
But then again, I use arreat's versus almost any character (only use arreat and kiras). So a Ko wouldn't be that wise. As for a Fal, it's useless, since when i get to use arreat's, i can then you all my gear. As for a hel or a -15% Reqs jewel, won't help, since again, i need 118 str to wear my grief+beast at all. A ber is out of my price-range, and a Jah would be useless.

You can shael it, and then get rid those stupid fhr charms from inventory

i would say a 40 ed 15ias are very good choices or plain 40% ed or a jewel with 15 ias + secondary mod like res etc.

I heard that a ITH rune works good for 15% damage taken goes to mana for a PvM Whirlwind barb, I have yet to socket mine so I would be curious what other people have to say.

if you get burned keep a row of super mana pots, damage to mana isn't necessary

I'd suggest anything with IAS.
Assuming standard BvC gear:
Arreat's
Grief+Beast / Widowmaker
Enigma
Dracul's
Verdungo's
Gore
Highlord's
Raven+Raven
You'll be able to hit a 9-frame Conc or Berserk swing even without Highlord's, and a 11-frame bow shot with Highlord's or 13-frame without. That would be a 1-frame increase in all aspects.
Other random mods can easily be found along with IAS jewels too. ED% (even lower amounts) would be great. I bought myself a 33%ED/15%IAS socketed Arreat's and I'm happy with it. ED isn't crucial though.

you might wanna slap a Shael rune into it. (yes, FHR is important for BvC)

You are almost correct on the setup, except that this came to my mind when I was dueling some random hammerdin, and I realised that with angelics (which are pretty necessary, if not, i only have 7k ar (with ravens), I shoot arrows damn slowly.
So then, my setup was:
Arreat's 'Shael'
Enigma Wyrm
Grief+Beast/Widowmaker
Arachnid
Angelic Amu
Angelic ring
Ravenfrost
Draculs
Gores
And i have to use that ravenfrost because i'm missing 14 dex to use Widowmaker with just angelics, arreat and charms.
Well, I do have a 15% ias jewel on my mule. Would that change a thing?

The best advice I've heard is to hit the 48% FHR BP. Personally, I bought (well, am in the process of buying) 4x FHR SCs with mods. This frees up my Arreat's socket for an ED/IAS jewel.
Bow shooting will be slow no matter what, so I figured that for my Barb, any frame increase would help.

also your ar with 2 ravens seems alittle low , i have 9.5k ar with 2 ravens and highlord. raven + angelic amulet and ring give me 14k ar this is without prebuff with demonlimb. may be the difference comes from charms??

Well, I barely have any life/ar charms, one legit 20/33, a Perf Fine sc with no life though. Then rest is 16-20 life scs, some with a second mod.
I have ko'd my widowmaker and i have 117 dext with 1 raven so i can use it
I can use my Widowmaker with angelics.
Base Dex 49
Charms: 20+18+1
Gear: 20+10
total: 49+20+18+1+20+10=118. The 1 dex on charms comes from a 3/18/1 max/ar/dex sc.

40/15 IAS jewels work fine when socketed in non weapons. It's the 40/15 max and 40/15 min jewels that are bugged when socketed in non weapons.
yes you are right about the jewels, but is the ias applied to weap speed ?
if not then what is the use of it? I mean external ias is not applied to weapon speed, am I wrong?

This is true for Whirlwind, but not for much else (aside from Wereform I think). External IAS will affect Conc/Berserk and Guided Arrow.
