View Full Version : Dual wield or use 2h for semi-poor WW barb?

I have never used a WW barb before so I'm at a bit of a loss as to weapon setup I should take. I'm sick of weapon/shield setups so I either want a massive 2hander or to dual-wield something. I have no end game weapons (my best 1handers being butcher's pupil and bloodmoon, both with the minimum amount of ED% available :undecided: ) My best 2hander is an insight bec-de-corbin with about mid-range ED%.

2h has range advange -- meaning more monsters get hit more often, and it looks sweet

1h has shorter range (2 for me, i have no zerker or knout) -- VERY fast attack, can get off a lot of hits on fewer monsters

I can't seem to decide what to do. Any thoughts?

use frenzy, ww requires godly weapons

what he said.

I'll like to add that even for frenzy barb, those stuff aren't going to work.

Shoot for a pair of DoOmbringer (that's bout the min. you should shoot for) for frenzy if you don't mind giving up LT... They should keep you alive in Hell mode

Eh. I have a frenzy barb and I don't like him too much. I'm thinking WW because it's different (for me at least). All of my other melee chars are fast attacking zealots, frenziers, fury druids, etc.

The weapons I have kinda suck, but I have about 3 mid runes and one Ist. I might be able to pick up something that's decent being a 2hander. What do you guys think about a normal bonehew, hellslayer, or weapons like that. I would like to reach lwbp, but if the damage is good enough, 6fpa might do. Then again, the possibility of getting 2fpa with 2 weapons is very tempting, but quite expensive...

In my point of view, I dont think so. you can play ww effectively with mid-power weapons as well. My WW barb is curently using razors edge tomahawk, and the damage stats on ti arent anything to gawk at (120-180 ish, 50% crit and 50% open wounds)
That and i only have about a lvl 16 axe mastry too. and he's soloed hell baal.
Of course, his merc is critical too. currently using shaftstop and reapers on merc. makes hell easier. but to say that you have to have "godly" weapons ( i dont like the word personally lol) i think is a gross stereotipical generalization. yes, having a high power weapon makes it easy, but if I wanted easy I would walk around with a hammerdin :-)

....walk around with a hammerdin. thats funny.:jig:
One thing you might think of is a IK barb. I could not beleave how cheap the set is. It is still gonna cost you, but NOT anything like a fort, beast, grief, nigma, ebotdz, and so on. (I met a guy that wanted 2 ist for his set, US west last ladder season)
To me, it sounds right up your ally.

IK set is pretty good, the maul is OK with all of the added elemental damage. I just wish the boots didn't have the 40% FRW :(

But what sort of weapon could I get for about 2 Ists? Bonehew is worth a little less than an Ist I guess. What about the Grandfather, Doombringer, Tomb Reaver, or perhaps a heavy thunder maul (Cranium Basher)?

the 40% frw from the boots is not a big beal. Plus you only need 30 ias on the maul for the bp. Speed on your weapon is what you want to look for when using ww.

yeah speed on weap is king!!!
I was using a slow poley with good damage and went to my tomahawk that showed 1/3 listed damage as polearm, but alot faster. it kills twice as fast as the polearm (note this i just my experience. Im not a numbr crincher, so its all about gameplay to me) that and being able to use a shield really helped too ( block and resist)

if by effectively you mean one player solo private hell and taking minutes to kill monsters then sure

of course an exceptional butcher's pupil could do the same thing

and yes i stand by my comment in 1.10/1.11 multiplayer solo hell pure ww barbs do need truly sick weapons with combinations of speed+damage+other offensive mods

lol I don't plan on attempting to solo multiplayer hell games. That's only for rich people or hammerdins.
