Tired of the old mfing/rushing/dueling pattern?


Join me and other d2 addicts of this forum in a quest to beat the game untwinked, quest by quest, on hardcore mod.

I have been thinking of some guidelines so that the experience remains pleasant and worthwhile (looking for additional comments if you have):

1- No rushing: just good ol' playing act by act, quest by quest.

2- Private games: we wont need others and we dont want them in our games so disturb or even try to Pk us (since we play hardcore).

3- No mfing/side playing: all the playing will have to be done with all other party members, drops will be separated between us so that the character who will make the best use of the item will get it.

4- Limited baalruns/exp-only runs: these runs will be done in case we are too low a level at the end of a given difficulty (we will try to enter Nightmare at 45 and hell at 70-75 or the like).


I think 4 or 5 people would be the best for doing this: more than this and we would have problems getting everybody's online at the same time. Less than this number would make the experience trickier, especially if someone dies.

As for the characters involved, i think they should be complemantary and useful in a party. For myself i will play a Monk paladin build, but with some auras that the normal build doesn't habitually have to help other party members, Ex: conviction. I think it would be almost mandatory to have some kind of singer barb to provide us with warcries as well as a summoner necro that will provide the much needed tanks. Another useful character could be a sorceress, for providing the damage/teleport.

Nice. Both ideas are great i think, and the summon druid can effectively take the place of the summoner necro. Is there a moment of the week were you are more easily online?

They use holy bolt so they are only (but very) effective vs undeads. I will use meditation and conviction as main auras, switching as we need.

Darnoc told me he would be interested in joining, dont know what character he would play though. We dont have a barb, we could do without one but hes gonna make our life alot easier.

Sounds like saturdays are were most of us are available; the evening is better for me, though i can free myself for the afternoon too.

Saturday evening is better for me too. My time in the afternoon tends to fluctuate. This coming Saturday, however, I won't be able to get on until 10ish eastern.

Since my build is more a support one i can do the summoncer or the singer instead, if we have empty chairs (or any other role).

Hey Zal,

I'm definitely there. 7:00 pm eastern is an ideal starting time for me except for this Saturday. 8:00 pm this week only would be perfect. If everyone is keen to get started (I know I am) then I'm sure I can work out a compromise to make 7:00 pm work.

I'll add your zalcitabine3 to my list.

As far as your build goes, I think you should stick with whichever build you would enjoy the most.

Good. I will send a PM now to the others to see who's in and who's not.

I have been thinking to it today and i will make a Foh pally. It's difficult (i have tried it out the last few days) to be really useful with a cleric/monk when your holy bolts are blocked by necromancer minions or the like. And the meditation aura can be got easily with an insight polearm on a merc. The high level conviction i will use will serve others well too, i think. That is, i will still have maxed holy bolt for healing and other useful "cleric" auras like salvation, cleansing and vigor.

So far only fluffballer and silentfox confirmed that they will be there, and darnoc was interested but was't sure if he could make it tonight. Thus i may do the singer barb, unless you want to do it. Do the role that you want, i will fill the missing space.
