View Full Version : Another sorc question....

I am in the process of rebuilding my primary MF sorc. During this rebuilding period I have had the need to rush a couple of characters, the MF sorc as well as a couple of socket mules, and have not been able to do so. I am leaning towards building a rush/pa sorc in addition to the MF sorc. I would like to do this with the gear I have on hand with out too much of an investment in gear/charms/etc. I was thinking of making a fire sorc for rushing/pa's. During the first season, when I was playing on West, my first sorc was a fire sorc and I was very dissapointed with her. Not in her ability to kill but with the amount of fire immune monsters in Hell difficulty. I only plan on using this rush/pa sorc for normal and NM difficulties, not for hell. One of my main questions is how much of NM is fire immune? Since I usually play Orb sorc's I only pay attention to cold immunities, not other immunities.

I was thinking of something like this:

Gear
Peaseant Crown
+3 Fire ammy
Vipermagi
+3 Eschuta's
Visceratuant (Pdia)
Ravenfrost (?)
Dwarf (?)
Magefists
Belt (?)
Nat's boots

Skills
Max Fireball
Max Meteor
Max Mastery
16 Telekinesis
1 Static Field
1 Teleport
1 Warmth
(86 Skill points?)

Would a fire sorc work for norm and NM rushes or are there too many fire immunes?

I'm not quite sure what your reasoning is for switching from Orb to fire. A mediocre Orb rips through normal and nightmare, covers the entire screen yet obliterates single targets, and is easy as pie to use. Fire, however, can take a little getting used to and does way more damage than you'd ever need in normal and nightmare.

I couldn't tell you what exactly is fire immune in nightmare since I also tend to use just Orb until hell, but I'm pretty sure it's essentially a non-issue until relatively late nightmare (i.e. Act V).

might be wrong on this, but the knights in nm chaos are fi. might be an issue because de seis' pack will be fi (except de seis of course)

and even though there aren't that many fi monsters in nm, a4-a5 certaily have monsters with high fire resistances.

and ya, orb is much better at rushing. if you are like me though, and can get lvls real quickly, nova does wonders too.

The reason for going fire was the Eschuta's I already have. I didnt want to have to go through the pain of trying to get another Occy for a PA sorc. I have a couple of +2 skills Orbs I could use instead of an Occy. Just trying to economize. Sounds like another Orb sorc might be the way to go....

@phat - btw, new sorc, betty_ford :thumbsup:

Mebbe I'm missing something, but he wasn't gonna hit the 105 bp on his fire setup anyway as far as I can see, and the only reason I'd go fire for this was to machine-gun fballs.

Hell Terry all you need is a freaking Shard to MF this game.......Wizzy FTW......no need for +skills.......speed speed speed....

I had a fire build in S2 I made specifically for Baal runs and got her set up for 105 and she screamed. I had a Wizzy/Whit switch wiht Eschutes/somfin (forget) I used the +skill setup for showering but stayed with the Wizzy alot especially lvlin up and Fireballin things all to hell.

Frankly Fire is a pain to MF with, it is rather restricting and considerably more dangerous on a few runs.

Chaos Santurary in NM is mostly FI, all of the Knights, not the Oblivs are FI and they make up the bulk of the dudes in there. Now that doesnt mean you cant do it since you do have a merc, all you need os to clear a safe area for a TP next to the "safe spot" and kill the seal bosses of which IIRC none are FI. Or...not sure you have other builds but I could see several other builds doing NM CS easier....traps, java....you could always switch for CS.
