i thought that i knew this game although i am poor as a poor person can be.

i just met someone who showed me 40 ist runes. what the hell am i missing.

I have played for 3 years and never made a runeword. where the hell are people getting them from

People dupe runes. The guy that showed you the 40 Ists may or may not be the duper himself, but I can almost guarantee you that at least some of those Ists he showed you are duped.
Ist runes can also be dropped from Hellforge.

Well there are people with literally hundreds of high runes and I believe them when they say they aren't dupers.

There are many ways of accumulating wealth: From hellforges, key runs, mf runs, socketables runs, uber-ing, re-rolling charms etc.

Others can get rich from the one extremely good item they happen to find (I won't use godly since I reserve those for the 2/30/15 CoAs :wink3:) and it snowballs from there.

With the ease at which high runes can be obtained these days (on West ladder at least. If you just have a little luck, getting 1-2 within 2 weeks of starting clean is achievable), most people can form runewords like Enigma easily, which, in my opinion, is a crucial component of MF/socketables /key runs.

Sure that they are not dupers, but most of the runes they have ARE dupes. They traded for them. Dupers ruined the whole economy on BNet.
I play on SP, I have 2/27/15 CoA, pair of Fathoms, around 10 Shako's, 2 average Griffon's, Windforce and other goodies, and only 2 HR (Sur,Ohm).
Just a rant of a legit SP player, enjoy your duped overpowered RW....

Basically there are six ways I can think of to get high runes:

- find them (makes legit runes)
- run forges and cube up (takes a lot of runes as you progress...) (makes legit runes)
- run bots (makes legit runes)

- Blizzard cooperating with item selling sites (may or may not create legit runes, depending on contract)

- dupe runes (does not make legit runes, probably)
- use some game crack to create new runes (may or may not create legit runes)

Trading doesn't make runes; you have no idea which of these options was used to make them

Oh of course I understand that 99.99% of the runes that are being traded on West (and East, less for Europe) are duped, my point was merely that there are people with hundreds of highs but didn't dupe them themselves.

I also understand that dupes screw the economy extremely badly. But this is probably going to turn into a "Is using duped runes considered cheating" kind of discussion which I'm not eager to participate :smiley:

For me, I just feel it's a necessary evil and have as much fun as I can while at it. Probably just like 95% of players out there (5% being SP, Bnet but don't trade etc)
