The following is the correct sorc hot-key set-up...
(disclaimer: this is not my opinion, but fact... sorry, guys)

f1 = secondary kill skill
f2 = static
f3 = primary kill skill
f4 = tele
f5 = telekinesis
f6/f7 = energy shield / armor
f8/f9 = battle orders / battle command

MoUsE_WiZ

That might be the correct sorc hotkey setup for any sorc that uses 2 kill skills, but clearly any sorc that uses 2 kill skills is wrong in the first place.

Totally disagree. Any key setup that uses the F keys for switching is wrong IMO. Much more natural to use the keys normally associated with the "home" position on the keyboard, meaning A-S-D-F and the surrounding keys rather than the F keys which require much more hand movement to use. Using the keys surrounding the home position on the keyboard requires very little hand movement and no looking at the keyboard while switching.

Aww ZappaDUDAR thats SO wrong I can't even begin to point out how wrong it is. I have skills at F1-F8, and use . / to scroll back and forth. For my left skills I use jkl... just scroll ^_^

(obviously, this is a rather silly approach.. but it works for me)

Well, obviously what's right is whatever is comfortable for the individual. But I was just struck by the person I responded to saying "The following is the correct sorc hot-key set-up... (disclaimer: this is not my opinion, but fact... sorry, guys)". No particular setup is in FACT the RIGHT one, that statement is wrong on face value alone.

F1=Static
F2=Kill
F3=2nd Kill

f3 Area of Effect kill (Blizz for example)

f5 Main kill spell (Spike/FBall/Blast etc.)
f6 Tele
f7 Cold Armor
f8 EShield

Sip
04-02-2006, 18:59
f1 - tele
f2 - blizz
f3 - glacial
f4 - static
f5 - eshield
f6 - cold armor
f7 - telekensis
f8 - town portal
f9 - battle commard
f10 - battle orders ftw

it took awhile to get used to f9-f10

edit: I use fathom so whatever i do is right.

no annoying mousewheel or function nkeys

f1: primary
f2: secondary
f3: static
f4: tele
f5: eshield
f6: cold armor
f7: BC
f8: BO

I like this because it puts primary, tele, and eshield at the most accessible 'f' keys being on the end of their rows.

What was the screeny of?

For Meteorb:

left click = Orb
a = Fire Ball
s = Meteor
d = Static
f = Teleport
F1-F4 = EShield, Shiver Armor, Telekenesis, etc. (stuff you shouldn't realy need to use in the heat of battle)

Matt

its of sip having teleported into a completely closed area (stone walls all the way around it) with his sorc, and finding a unique monster in there.

My setup varies a bit, but is usually something like this:
f1: TP
f2: teleport
f3: static
f4: main skill
f5: ES or cold armor
f6: the other
f7 TK
f8: whatevers left.

However, I very occasionally hit tele when i go for static, so i sometimes prefer tele as f8, and another damage skill as f2.

How can you use the mouse wheel in situations where you need to switch skills quickly? I know I'd end up spinning to the wrong skill and screwing myself over.

f2:depends(glacial on sorc)
f3:tele
f4:2ndary skill
f5:static
f6:eshield
f7:battle command
f8:battle order
f9:armor

LMAO mine beats all...And I cant change it or I just get hella confused.

The problem with remapping hotkeys is I always get too used to defaults while learning the game before I decide on what exactly would be the most efficient. Not that I can't learn new keys, it's that I don't care enough to go through that ackward phase in between hotkey maps, always irritating pressing q and not getting the quest log and other such things.

Also:
Left click orb
f1 port
f2 static
f3 es
f4 tp
f5 bc
f6 bo
f7 fa
f8 tk

Now, you're free to build non-orb sorcs, but just make sure that the keys look like that. This may involve wasting points to get a level 1 orb and being very irritated while trying to cast meteor, but hey, at least your keys will be correct.

f1 lightning
f2 nova
f3 static
f4 tele
f5 es
f6 shiver
f7 chain
f8 tk
f9 bo
f10 bc
f11 tp

and tai does indeed have the worst setup (wtb f6 tele?)

f1=nothing
f2=nothing
f3=glacial spike
f4= blizzard
f5= tele
f6 = es
f7 = shiver armor (don't remember if shiver and es are that order but meh)
f8= nothing (usually tomb of tp's but duelers don't use tps)

Mine actually started because I would add the keys to the char as I got the skills.

Like my first barb got Tome hotkeyed first, so it got f1, then a special attack, shout, battle orders etc.

Then when I made a new character I set up their hotkeys based off his.

My barb all have f6, f4, f3 as bc, bo, shout.
My other characters all have skills they can cast in town on f8, f7, f4 be they ES, Armor TStorm (can't be cast in town but you know what I mean) or Grizzly Bear, Cyc Armor and Oak.

the Y key is actually my town portal hot-key on all my characters. I found that with my fingers on 1,2,3,4 or f1,f2,f3,f4, my thumb was naturally resting on Y, so I set it up as that.

I went through the whole re-learning my hot-keys process a while ago... they used to be all over the place. It's tough, but I think it was worth it.

Lucky's is the only one that strikes me as REALLY strange... having BC and BO five keys apart seems weird, since you'd never use them except together.

Ididmephistosmom
07-02-2006, 07:56
i think the hotkeys are there for personal preference... so theres no "actual" rule for which hotkeys to use.

as for me, i assign my hotkeys as follows on my meteorb.

a- hold position
s- tele
d- meteor
f- frozenorb

and my left skill is always fireball so i can just hold a click on left mouse button and gazillions of fireballs are released to kill hell andy in 3 seconds

Keysetup on display? Guess this is threads gone really OT :rolleyes:.

I play hybrid amazon mostly ... here is my keysetup I came up with after thinking a bit about what fingers are eaisy to move around and such:

§ = inventory
1,2,3,4 = belt of course (rarely use because of leach)
spacebar = show items on ground
Alt = run/walk toggle
Mouseup = weapon switch
Mousedown = TP (down = reatreat = TP locical isn't it)

Fingers normal position (bowmode):
A = Valkyrie
S = Decoy
D = Strafe
F = Multi

Closecombat lightning Java:
Move the two fingers from d and f to e and r
E = Lightning stricke
R = Charged Strike
T = Jab (move from r to t when using this)

Ranged (Cow and other packs) Lightning Java:
Move the two fingers from d and f to e and g
G = Lightning fury

Misc Bow/passive skills
Q = Inner sight (for fun I guess ... anyone know if this works on bosses?)
W = slow missiles
Z,X = fire and cold arrow (for handling PI/LI and slowing a bit for fun)
C = Magic Arrow (eaisy reachable when out of arrows and/or PI/LI)
V = guided (eaisy change between multi and GA in duels)

Apart from these F1 and so on are used for screens: Party, Message log, character and hireling.
Dont like using the other mouse button for anything but picking up stuff ... to much trubble to holding "Hold position".

Think there is quite some logic to my keysetup ... just wanted to say this ... sorry for so much (more) OT :rolleyes: ...
