all hc players once in a while come across a familiar monster that they loath, usually cuz it kills them in like 2 hits
to start off the list, i would like to say the monsters i hate most:
1. Stygians--pesky midgets do k's of dmg...
2. souls--these ****s kill countless teler's in baal runz
3. oblivion knights--IM...says it all
4. minions of destruction--hardly a fair example since they only appear in one place, but still, I HATE THEM
5. claw vipers--try to do nilh runs, and OMFG these things RIP me apart(keep in mind i play SC now, but still remeber the good old hc days)
6. venom lords--chaos sanc. last seal...gg, some1 ALWAYS has to die.....
7. burning dead archers(NM and hell)--these skels do a supriseing amount of dmg, fast, and over a distance
8. prowling dead-- bastards charge, take out 600 life per hit, AND JUST DONT STAY DEAD
9. scarabs--come on...a bone necro fires away teeth at a mob of scarabs and BOY WAS THERE A CB STORM
10. FALLEN-- THESE BASTARDS, especially in normal diff, when u just started, u kill one, the rest scatter, makes life SOOOOO annoying, not to mention i have a thing with Rakanishu, this bastard actually ended the life of one of my hc chars in hell diff. surpirising what LE and FE can do on 1 monster....o, and did i mention, -42 light res?
I dont care about dolls on sorks as long as I have my ES and DR :). Souls = no problem b/c most chars I make have tgods on. Only ones I hate in there are Burning archers, Knights, and scarabs in normal when I have no Light resist other then that...I love killing scarabs and snakes and minions = cake...
I hate...Round 2 and round 3 of baal in hell...Round 2 b/c the poison = GG and round 3 b/c they murder my merc if they get to many hyrdas up.
Edit. : I do hate fallen. I depise any monster that can be brought back to life that fast with a char that can only attack a single one at a time... GG so dumb. :)

10) Fallen Ones
They're annoying yes, but they're also slow and easy to spot
9) Birds... not the vultures, the little ones... all of them
Too much effort, not enough reward
8) Maggot Eggs
They are too good at avoiding being hit for something that can't move
7) Mummies that are in a position to res OKs/Gloams/Dolls
Go through all the effort of clearing the dangerous monsters just to have to do it again...specifically the 2nd wave as otherwise the mummies generally get targetted first
6) Lightning Spire (or whatever they are in the arcane)
Too tough to kill and I hate just leaving them there
5) Sarcaphogus (or whatever the zombies come out of in A2)
Ditto
4) Corpsefire
Always the biggest challenge my untwinked orbers face (in hell), which wouldn't be so bad, but he's a freakin zombie in the Den of Evil
3) Vultures
Flying around taunting me and I can't kill them... until I decide to go fight something else, THEN they land
2) Zakarum ____s
They really don't do anything but run away
1) Flayers
Similar to fallen... only they camoflage, have a ranged attack, and are fast
are we talking about all-time?
the most frustrating monster for me used to be a random unique zombie in act 1 norm. More specifically, act 1 norm zombie with teleport/lightning enchant.
If any of you oldies remember back in the day, monsters with tele would heal everytime they tele'd. Y'all know how hard it is to kill a le monster at the beginning of the game with an untwinked char. Remember having to fight these guys? :)
Likewise norm durry is a pain in the arse for untwinked chars

i was more thinking of keeping this thread about families of monsters liek fallen and vultures, not uniques like the one u mentioned, although i do sympasize(i know i spelled it wrong) with u, LE is always a b..uh..witch to fight, even with tele, but its the ones with iron skin that melee chars can BARELY kill, only forced to re-fight them. i also want to keep this thread on regular monsters, cuz if we could include unqiues, then well, dury in normal and FE, LE, conviction aura Bremm Sparkfist would be THE worst, not to mention extra fast

god i love that brute, my hammerdin, when he was lvl 45, killed tree head(mind u this hammerdin has NO mf) and found a peasant crown
sad fact, at the time, that was better than 95% of the drops i get from my mfer
i also want to mention nilh in this case, since ce in hell, simply slaughters any person who has no idea what to expect
i.e. ME, my fire sorc was blown to bits after dishing out 50 fb's into nilh's direction, and then i thought he was dead(stupid me, i would have gotten quest thingy) and desided to slowly walk forward, while stopping to shoot more fb's, and then, i c a corpse, at least HALF SCREEN away from me blow up, and deeds, i was FUMING
dolls, gloams - all have their problems, but can often be dealt with. The ones that really annoy me are the cantor types. It has happened more than once, that I was having problems with a particularly hard council member boss, got him very nearly down dead and a stray cantor went and healed him ! Bastard !
Or a boss pack of the damn things - they heal each other faster than you can damage them. Bastards !

You havent yet mentioned the stygian fury types of monsters.
Youre somewhere and see the missiles they cast. You see THOUSANDS of them. Thinking: "Omg, atleast 20 monsters there" when you move there you see 2 monsters... Theyre like flying machine guns... I hate them.

I don't like them for their randomness... they don't generally hurt, but every now and then a boss pack will be hidden in their masses, they'll be extra strong, you won't see the might aura, baal will cast decrep, and you'll get deeds. The ones in the Matron's Den almost always hurt though because you're almost always amped.
However, I don't hate them... it can be fun to tank them. Especially the ones near Nil where they can't have any icky mods (provided Nil's already dead. My barb had:
50% DR
~45 PDR
15% Fire absorb
~35 MDR
He was incredibly close to being immune to them, I tanked close to 20 of them for ~5 minutes one time just for the fun of it. Something satisfying about watching them machine gun you to no effect.

Most hated! :D Well... this is different from my most dangerous list. There are just some monsters are just think... ARRRGH:
10) Venom Lords and Ghouls. Their physical resistance in Hell is just frustrating.
9) Flayers when I don't have an area of effect attack.
8) Mana Burn monsters... all of them... Especially Wraiths who get you from range.
7) Claw Vipers that, after they kill you, make you wonder whether the game totally IGNORED something called Faster Hit Recovery.
6) Gloams - they have strong ranged attack, and they tie with my #3 and #8. Grr...
5) Oblivion Knights - OMG THOSE CHICKENS! They start running away when they start to die.
4) Monsters with Decreptify, especially Baal. Just Iron Maiden me already, I just want to move!
3) Monsters that don't let you leech, like skeletons, gloams, etc.
2) Extra strong monsters who ARE stronger than they look.
1) Any monster with Fanaticism Aura Enchanted, Extra Fast monsters that come at you while you're cursed with Amplify Damage. I'll avenge my level 81 Assassin someday...

1. Stygian dolls ( small, fast and tons of damage when they die )
2. Cursed/cursing Monsters ( no matter what char you play, they always curse what you need the least and kill your merc with im )
3. MSLE monsters with conviction ( Hephasto sometimes spawns with these mods )
4. Snakes ( cold immune, charge lock and always mobs of 10+ )
5. The Zakarum bunch ( they run away, only to come back and kill the lvl 1 that gets rushed, while the others keep healing the council )
6. All monsters that revive others ( come on, I already beat that guy )
7. Those charging Zombies, that just donīt want to stay dead ( see 6 )
8. The Walls in the Flayer dungeon ( they shoot all sorts of crap at you and you canīstop that )
9. Mana Leacher ( all of them )
10. The flayers ( so many of them, wide spread and all shoot crap at you )
1-10: souls with conviction aura with a huge radius. about the only thing that I hated when I played d2.
Leapers.....Eggs.....Beetles especially a bug run in the River.
Most of the original list can be ruff but any well prepared character can handle all of them with some use of the brain. I didn Nith in Hell on almost every build I made in 1.10 and I have watched those Vipers smoke stupid Barbs that thought they didint need to look around before entering a room, or that stupid teleing Sorc that was impatient.
The Balrog Flamers.....you get this group poped on you and you are in trouble, but if you dont let tht happen it isnt an issue with good fire res and proper play.....
Diablo Norm untwinked can be a big battle for many builds.
The Zombie in the Den at all levels depending on spawn can be tuff.....especially tuff in Norm untwinked.
Dolls are something to alway pay attention to but once again.....using the brain will avoid deaths.
FE on almost anyhting in NM but especially those big life ones.
Dont think there is anything that worrys me unless I am jsut not prepared for them. Vipers are probably the most dangerous thing in the game really, even for the prepared player they can hit you from off the screen.

Might enchanted Bone Archers (The ones that shoot the fire arrows)
Especially if your necro doesn't have much FHR. I mean come on! You admit deffeat and are running away with your tail between your legs, but you only get to take about 1 step for every 3 hits!
and the Spear Cats in the Bloody Foothills & Fridged Highlands in NM and Hell. Jesus those spears go a long ways!
Any self respecting Necro that gets pwned by those spear or arrows unless he is jumped at the way point needs to die! They are 3 curses that can prevent this and all of them can be a 1 point investment.....as well as bone armor.

hmm stinger, ur very critical of how we play, ever notice that what happens is an accident, when my sorc died, i couldnt understand how the area of effect of ce could be that big(half screen), but i guess it was just lag, as for cursing the monsters, im sure u want to stand in the same place while getting shot to pieces with primitive weapons,
btw the stygains in matron's den, are SUCH SLUTS, they are compltely over powered, especially for 1st timers who have no CLUE what to expect

because you're stacked for LR or Conviction, but not both.

Oh no, you're definitely stacked for both. And you've also got a total of ~600% CR on for those nasty ice blasters.
Then you get PK'd by a barb that had to take the time to run down.

As I recall the 600X800 screen is 13' and CE can exceed it a CE that is half the screen can be had with minimal investment and +skills easily. If you think you can run from archers and spears chukers you will likely die, but one cast of Dim Vision can allow you to stand there naked......
If you cant handle critical comments you should not post on message boards. If someone is doing somethign I beleive to be wrong/stupid I will post on it and I am not one to sugar coat or pull punches.
