hi all, im having great difficulty running nilly. i am a hammerdin which has a decent merc with the regular ie shaft, insight, tals helm

i always die near nilly and i just can't run him. any suggestions?

also, i have a couple questions

1. what is life tap, why do smiters that do ubers use dracs
2. how many hrs are the gear of a smiter that does ubers well around?
3. is a smiter the best choice for killing ubers, or is a smiter/zeal char more effective?

Use a Nature's Peace ring when you are ready to go after nih. it will limit the number of CE's he can use. I use hoto and hoz for killing the monsters and have wizzy and spirit on switch for the 125 tele. I usually change one of my fcr rings for NP at the top of the stairs or in the chamber outside nih's. Use the holy freeze merc. you may want to take his weapon from him if he is killing too much. hope this helps. I find it very hard to keep my merc alive running nih and will often leave him dead until i am finished running.

With that gear you should have no trouble against Nihlathak. Teleport right on top of him and spam hammers. Switch to Redemption to clear up any corpses and to refill any life/mana you may have lost.

1. Life Tap-instant 50% life leech that works on all monsters. Crucial if you want to survive very long in Uber Trist.
2. You can make a pretty effective smiter for Uber Trist with gear bought with PGems or a mid rune or two.
3. Both can handle Uber Trist fine.

But a zealot with his one point smite can also do the same. It's just that a pure smiter will do it a bit faster.

Flareboosted, I just wanna say that you got some godly gear right there compared to my poor smiter on ladder lol. Don't know why you can kill nilly but does it have anything to do with the viper damage bug? If it is then it'd be really annoying to deal it. If it's not, then you should check what you did wrong, probably taking on too many minions at the same time.

BTW, I looked around and couldn't find a pure pvm smiter build, anyways, you max:
smite
holy shield
fanaticism
defiance

and you can get some gear advice from the people around here.

Definitely NOT what I would call poor. Anyways, you need nature's peace for running him. My sorc has one and still eat an occasional CE (which drops my life down to 200 hp from 1000+).

Anyways, to make an uber killer, it can easily take less than 2 ist. If you are good at planning gear, you can get by with less than 2 ums.

I would say just use a pure zealot (which will have 1 point smite). Ubers are push overs if you know the trick anyways (OW, CB, life tap, massive resists). At least now your character can PvM nicely, instead of a smealot. If you want to PvP, a pure smiter would be exellent. (ie. don't build a character for ubers only since it is a waste)

My Hammerdin's setup is almost identical to yours, and I haven't died once at Nilly. I don't use use Nature's Peace, and the only difference is I use Wizzy/verdungos instead of Hoto/Goldwrap. Your gear is fine, I believe it's the way you attack him that gets you killed. Try this: when you get to him, name-lock him with your right mouse button/tele, in a way that will make you tele right under him. After that, it's in the bag, as 2-4 point blank hammers will kill him. 90% of the time he doesn't even have a chance to cast CE bcz he dies before any of the mininions. For those times where he does use it, make sure you have a full rejuv ready, that's all. Piece of cake really.

omg im so dumg i 4got all about full juvs. thx alot man, oh and by the way, whats your hammer dmg around? mine is only like 9k with my mf gear on =S
