Hey all,
Been playing d2 for some time, but recently I've been getting into the game a bit more than in the past- mainly because I've finally got a character that can handle hell with ease. So now I'm starting to find some decent items and even a few HRs.
Since I started playing a few months ago, I've gotten quite discouraged a few times and almost quit playing- this is due to trading valuable items for runes that disappear, some after a few days, some after a few weeks. I understand this is mostlikely because they are dupes, and some auditor daemon on bnet eventually finds and destroys them.
Here's an example. On a pindle run in NM I get a miracle drop- one of the monsters outside of pindle's little nook drops a 182 HOZ (yes, a 182 HOZ in NM!) and I get a funny feeling in my pants. After sitting on the HOZ for a few weeks, I trade it for Jah Ist. Of course, my goal is Enigma, and now I just need a nice 3s Archon and a Ber. I traded the Ist and a Mal (thanks Countess!) for a Lo to make Fort, but before I could find a Ber, my Jah disappeared. It was in my stash when I left a game, and when I joined another game almost right away, it was gone.
This happened to me yet again after trading a sexy 20life 15mana SC for an Ist. And again after trading 2 5resist all SCs for another Ist+.
What strategies can you recommend for preserving my wealth? I've resorted to asking for 2 lesser runes and cubing them right away (so I'll ask for 2pul instead of um, and cube them into an um as soon as I get them) and this seems to work, but it certainly isn't viable for high runes. Some people have mentioned buying any item from Charsi before leaving the game to "perm" the items, but this seems a bit off to me. Any suggestions?
