Basically I want to make a (PvM mfind) blizzard or Orb sorc, 20 in blizzard/Orb (not sure yet if I max out the other bonusses, is it worth it?).
20 in cold mastery, unfortunately cold mastery doesnt deal with cold immunity. so my idea was to get a level 20 static field, rocks in combination with the blizzard/Orb. Static can deal with cold immunity for a large bit. but how do I finish of the last bits of hp when I hit them with lots and lots of static fields...
and what do I do if I run into cold & lightning immune?
I'm quite stuck on the fact what kind of sorc I should make, for ultimate (Hell Mfinding)
thanks
PS. I never really understood how sorc deals with immunities. so please enlighten me

Dont max out Static Field. One point is enough; let +skills do the rest. For cold immunes, static them, then let your merc finish them off.

and what about
#1 blizzard (and maxing out all the bonusses) leaving no skillpoiints left
#2 Orb (and all the bonusses) leaving lots of skillpoints left, what to get with that? 1 to static 1 to tele, some energy field? but what witht he rest?

1) If you want to do a pure Blizz sorc, then go ahead and max all the synergies
2) After you get a decent Frozen Orb, you can either work on the fire skills and make yourself a Meteorb, or you can work on the lightning skills and make yourself a CL/FO sorc.
Getting both Blizzard and Frozen Orb is a complete waste of skills in my opinion. Both are timered, and both are similar types of skills. Instead, try either: Meteorb fire/cold tree hybrid, with Frozen Orb/Cold Mastery/Fireball/Meteor/Fire Mastery, or pure Blizzard with full synergies and Cold Mastery. Pure Blizzard is powerful against Mephisto, while Meteorb is generally ok at everything. Easy way to deal with immunities is to hire a Might Act 2 mercenary and equip him with a decent polearm. I've found the Obediance runeword the best value and not too far below godly for mercenaries. I have mine in an ethereal threasher, yielding nearly 1000 damage and excellent modifiers.

solo tree builds are great for mf'ing in hell with a merc that can take (and give out) some damage
static CI monster to 1/2 health and let merc take care of the rest
maxing orb AND blizzard is indeed a waste (i agree w/ everyone else)
good luck

oh I didnt mean maxing out both (I understand thats a waste of skillpoints) :) Orb or blizzard not both.
but thanks for the replies, I think i'll go with blizzard/static and merc
now to find some good stuff for him (if a merc kills _your_ MF doesnt affect his right?)
I think that when a merc kills, your mf is added to his mf. Atleast thats the way for gold find.

From Arreat Summit
Here's how to get the most (1167%) out of Magic Find for yourself. This does not count the maximum possible with Hirelings but you only receive that bonus when Hirelings make a kill. Add Magic Find to Hirelings to increase Magic Find even more.

but how do I finish of the last bits of hp when I hit them with lots and lots of static fields...Static is capped at 50% in hell. ie. It doesn't reduce damage to less than 50% hp.I've found the Obediance runeword the best value and not too far below godly for mercenaries. I have mine in an ethereal threasher, yielding nearly 1000 damage and excellent modifiers.I have one on a 15ED eth thresher. Found that little baby myself.
