Can someone perform a lobotomy on me?

I had a new job. I had one month of testing time. I got sacked at the end of that month.

And here's the reason:

I had too much potential. I was too smart. I was too creative. I could think three steps ahead.

Evil me for having a brain and being able to think.

right now, I am GODDAM PISSED OFF.

Untill I find something else, let it be duly noted I shall use my creativety to butcher. Not to mention maim. Kill. Burn. Pillage. And rip off ears.

"Too much potential" sounds like something you'd say to an idiot savant.

Were they afraid you'd "grow out of them" relatively quickly and leave for a better job, or what? Either way they'd have to go through the hiring process again anyway...

There is a large investment involved in assimilating new stafff into an organization. So if there is a chance you won't be around that long because your abilities far exceed whats necessary for the job most companies will cut there percieved losses and avoid an further investment in the bright light. Really can't fault them. The bear should be aiming higher or get into an entry level position where they want you to excel and move up.

righto. this might hurt. please bear in mind that I'm not yelling at anyone here at the forums, but am lashing out at the world in general.

I can read about 100-120 pages per hour. dutch is my first language, but I can do it in English too. I can write a 7000 word novelle inn roughly 6-10 hours. it will stand up to critiscim at that point, and it will be very good. I can do this in english and dutch.

I am TIRED of the little minded policies and ideas of those that cannot keep up with me. Idiot savante my ***. I have HAD IT. I'll either burst out in flames and blaze everyone away or burn up from now on. As far as I'm concerned, everyone can go **** themselves. and now, if you dont mind, ill go drink hallf a litre of 7.3% Hertog Jan, and will play WC III.

its also possible that your manager thought that you might be a threat to his/her job security.

It's unlikely that the manager would think that and then say I'm firing you because you're too good.

Look, I've hired and fired hundreds of people in my time (I'm one of the old foggies here I guess). It is seriously unlikely that the problem was that you were "too good". That, honestly, sounds like someone trying not to have a blow up-and that's easiest by making themselves sound "little" while trying to build you up. What is most likely is

(1) They had a serious issue with your performance but not your innate ability. Maybe it's a conflict with others you needed to work with. Maybe it's an inability to follow someone else's vision. And maybe it's for not knowing when to back off, even when you think you've got a better idea, approach, whatever. Learning how to work with other folks well, regardless of what you think your abilities are compared to theirs, is pretty fundamental. Maybe they are just stupid of course...but I've found that to be pretty rare.

(2) They don't want to get sued nor the messiness of trying to justify why they really don't want you. So, they tell the soon-to-be-ex-employee the good things and leave out the bad. If they'd been honest, they might have had to prove it in court under a lawsuit. But, if they say "you're too good for us"....well, not many people sue over that, they just think "those idiots!".

In the end, I think it's more productive to look at yourself and how what you did might have led to this result. Figure out what you could have done differently rather than vent your spleen and blame the outside world (or take it out on others as you're alluding). If you don't, this scene is likely to repeat for you, time and again as you go forward.

Okay, what the hell do I know? <shrug> Good luck nonetheless.

Perhaps the latte crowd was too much for one bear to resist?

You're better off not working for a company run by such feeble minded individuals.
I remember a controversy over a candidate for sheriff deputy somewhere in the southern USA that was told they had scored TOO HIGH on the aptitude test. The idiot sheriff had a tough time explaining why, he did try though.
Believe me, not all companies are as unappreciative of capability or potential. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll find a GREAT job!

I would say it is probably time to emigrate to the U.S.A. Over here you are wanted for your brains and if you get too bored with your job you just go the self-employment route.
I have been self-employed for 30 years. It takes discipline and hard work. And you don't have the system that you have in your country to fall back on. But there is nothing more rewarding than to be totally responsible for your livelihood and income. You want more money, you work harder.
I wish you good luck and much success.
By the way, I was fired 4 times in my twenties. I am now 57 and haven't been fired ever since I started working for myself.

Baranor
27-01-2006, 21:54
mehhh.
I've most likely been fired because the lady who was leaving deceided she didnt want to go after all. they're just too lame to tell the truth. there was no chance of suing, as what they did was 100% legal.

Savvi... yeah, no, maybe, see above, but guess what? I know im too smart for the job, I just wanted a f*cking income. The thing was that I'm pretty self reliant, and they didnt like that I think. If someone tells me to do something I go do it, and I know why I'm doing it. I dont need to ask. They expected me to ask. but if you ask stuff, you get told you ask too many questions. This leads to the idiotic situation where one cannot do anything right. Now, your comments are well-meant and I take them as such. But in all honesty, there was little I could have done. they told me I went too fast... I worked at 50% capacity, kept it low because I tend to scare people when I go at it at full speed.

Now that I've managed to sleep somewhat during the night and am back in rational thinking land, I am 100% convinced that I was kicked because the idiot who's spot I was to take didnt leave. It had little to nothing to do with me, and everything with sticking with an employee they knew.

Meh. Screwed I tell you, SCREWED!

Hows about this...

The next time you are about to PK someone, tell them that they are too good for Diablo and need to be removed.

Nothin relieves stress like good beer, good PKin, and good sex (yes, in THAT order).
