Tried posting this in the ATMA thread, but no response:


I've been running Hell Mephisto lately with about 500MF, players 3.


I'm fairly certain his drops are "quest drops" since they are always rare or better (double durability magic items for failed sets).


Just today I was comparing the odds for "Mephisto - [H]" against "Mephisto ~ 1st kill - [H]" and noticed that the quest drop has no entry for Gold. However, I know for a fact that he has dropped gold on many runs.


Any idea what's going on?

I don't think he is doing quest drops. He's dropping only magical items because your MF is high. I'm seeing the same thing too.
BTW, after checking ATMA, I do think the numbers there look quite suspicious. Using "Breast Plate" for example (because the cursed green plate is the most commonly found thing:smiley: ), the following numbers are listed by ATMA with 1 player and 500MF:
1/110 for Unique (Venom Ward)
1/48 for Set (Isenhart's Case)
1/64 for Rare
1/8259 for Magic
1/22 for Base
The number for magic just doesn't look right comparing to the number for base, can someone with access to the game data files verify it? Thanks!

For rares and set items, diminishing returns of MF are not that severe, so if you have lots of MF, the chance for magical items can become quite low, except for failed set items, of course. BTW, if you have solved the Meph quest, he won't produce quest drops.

The numbers above are correct: 1/110+1/48+1/64+1/8259~=1/22. The 1/22 chance is the chance for any kind of breast plate. Meph cannot drop nonmagical brestplates at all.

If you have seen gold piles from meph, then it's definitly normal drop. Gold doesn't drop from quest drop.
Check more blue items and you will see that some of them have normal durability.

Ohh... I misunderstood the term "Base" in ATMA. I thought it means 1/22 chance to get a "white" breatplate, which puzzled me. Thanks!

Thanks, you guys were right - I tried a few runs without MF equipment on and the blues were normal durability. Strange that every one I'd seen before that was 2x or a bow :laugh: - guess that means MF is working.


So that means "Mephisto - [H]" is the one to believe. Is it just for Andariel that it would be "Andariel ~ 1st kill - [H]" ?
